What was your first job as a journalist?

I wrote tennis news for an Egyptian website called FilGoal.com

Have you ever used a typewriter?

Yes.

How is social media changing news?

The reach is now incredible. People connecting in ways never seen before. Citizen journalism also changing the shape of reporting.

Who's your favorite fictional journalist?

Will McAvoy from The Newsroom and of course Tintin!

What does it mean to be a journalist?

It means you're accountable for every word that's printed under your name. You have a responsibility to convey the truth.

Atex, InCopy, InDesign, Wondershare's Filmora.

Why did you become a journalist?

I always enjoyed reading stories about athletes, always saw them as super heroes. Now I get to help them tell their stories!

Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?

No I didn't, we didn't have one.

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?

I was particularly proud of my Olympics coverage because I focused on the Arabs in London, the good, the bad and everything in between.

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

Always fight for what you believe in and don't allow anyone to skew your opinion or make you write something you're not convinced to write.

When's the best time to pitch you?

Anytime, any day!

What's your favorite drink?

Mint lemonade

When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?

Court-side watching live tennis

Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?

Used to be Grantland (RIP). Searching for a suitable replacement now.

What's the most common misperception about your beat?

That women's tennis is inferior to men's tennis
