Workers RPC now works across Python and JavaScript
Two years ago, we introduced Workers RPC, built on Cap’n Proto RPC. This made it possible for Workers to call other Workers and Durable Objects’ methods, return live objects and call their methods, return functions, streams and get all the benefits of a Remote Procedure Call (RPC) system, without defining schemas or adding any dependencies. We called it “JavaScript-native RPC” because it made using RPC feel native to the language.
Cloudflare Workers and Containers now support inbound TCP connections and gRPC
AI is changing how people interact with computers, and voice is becoming an increasingly important part of that shift. Real-time assistants, AI-powered dictation, and other voice interfaces need low-latency communication between clients, models, and supporting services. Many developers use gRPC, a Remote Procedure Call (RPC) framework built on HTTP/2 and TCP, for this infrastructure.
What I’m Finding About LLM Code Style and Token Costs
Spending output tokens to share it. Before the price spikes. Jim Where This Started I’ve been working through creating and reviewing features with Claude the past year. It’s been remarkable seeing the tension in token consumption and legacy patterns. Right when I think something is complete, a problem surfaces—regression, edge case, whatever. All the while watching the slow, steady and natural march toward eventual full-price rates.
How to Upload Files with Deno and Pinata
Node.js completely changed the JavaScript ecosystem, but not without its own issues. Even the creator of Node.js, Ryan Dahl, admitted later on that he had his own regrets over the design of Node. That’s what eventually spurred him to start Deno (if those letters look familiar, 'node'.split('').sort().join('')), a new JavaScript runtime with security for the modern web.
How to Upload Files with Bun and Pinata
If you’ve been in the developer ecosystem for the last few years, then you’ve probably heard of Bun.sh. It took the dev world by storm last year when it reached its V1 release, becoming an all-in-one tool for Javascript or Typescript. In a lot of ways, it works as a drop-in replacement for Node.js, giving users the ability to install packages, run Javascript or Typescript files, bundle them, and even do tests natively.
Effortless API Testing: Node.js Techniques for Next.js Route handlers
Have you ever tried to test a metaframework? It's a nightmare. These frameworks tend to give you an opinion for almost everything, but often times, when it comes to testing, they turn a blind eye and pretend it's none of their business. Well, I took it upon myself to figure out how to test Next.js's route handlers, and in this post I'll explain my solution.
Redesigning a Retail Copilot with Open Source Models
Introduction As part of our 3rd-year group project in the EE Department of Imperial College London and under the amazing guidance of @Lee_Stott and @nitya , our team devised an end-to-end framework for developing and deploying GenAI retail copilots using state-of-the-art models from the Hugging Face AI platform and integrating them with a back-end architecture which leverages Microsoft Azure infrastructure.
Adding new LLMs, text classification and code generation models to the Workers AI catalog
Over the last few months, the Workers AI team has been hard at work making improvements to our AI platform. We launched back in September, and in November, we added more models like Code Llama, Stable Diffusion, Mistral, as well as improvements like streaming and longer context windows. Today, we’re excited to announce the release of eight new models. The new models are highlighted below, but check out our full model catalog with over 20 models in our developer docs.
Workers AI Update: Stable Diffusion, Code Llama + Workers AI in 100 cities
Thanksgiving might be a US holiday (and one of our favorites — we have many things to be thankful for!). Many people get excited about the food or deals, but for me as a developer, it’s also always been a nice quiet holiday to hack around and play with new tech. So in that spirit, we’re thrilled to announce that Stable Diffusion and Code Llama are now available as part of Workers AI, running in over 100 cities across Cloudflare’s global network.
