Up here, down there: exploring trans sex
Trans sex is a topic that many seem to avoid in conversation because it includes talking about not only sex and how to have it, but also the many variables that come along with trans sex such as dysphoria, hormones, sexuality, gender, presentation, toys and, of course, communication. It might sound daunting, but transgender sex isn’t different from cisgender sex in that you will need consent, good communication and a safe word.
Love in the time of Tumblr
In 2013, I was a mere 17 years old. I was also an avid Tumblr user, as were many of many of my peers in those days. This was the halcyon era of Doge meme social media—so many Doge memes. About four months earlier, when I was 16, I had gotten out of a relationship that ended pretty badly. It was a tale as old as time—the guy was in a band and he thought it was more important than me. Also, we simply weren’t mature enough to be in a relationship. So, we had an awkward six months.
A conversation with Sarah Iannarone: post-election activism in Portland
Sarah Iannarone is a former Portland mayoral candidate and Portland State alum. Iannarone first ran for Portland mayor in 2016 as a progressive candidate. A political outsider, Iannarone had never worked in city government, and she lost decidedly to Ted Wheeler. In 2020, Iannarone ran again, nearly unseating the incumbent Wheeler after his popularity sank due to his handling of nightly protests.
Plans for a more LGBTQ+-friendly Portland
City council members and other employees of the city government come, go, and are succeeded by new members every few years—and while these new members would have plans for LGBTQ+ initiatives, they would be starting from scratch every time. In response, a new position was created: the LGBTQ+ analyst position, housed within the Office of Equity and Human Rights Bureau.

Mayor Ted Wheeler Incumbent Mayor Ted Wheeler managed a narrow lead over his opponent Sarah Iannarone, and was reelected to four more years in office with the City of Portland. “What I take away from this election is that the voters want change, and they’re going to get change from this administration,” Wheeler told OPB, shortly after the election. What does this mean for the LGBTQ+ community? In the past, Wheeler has expressed support for the LGBTQ+ community.

You all must stop lionizing transgender women only to leave us without community and solidarity.
