Interview

What was your first job as a journalist?

My career in journalism started as a trainee reporter on the Dover Express, a weekly newspaper in Kent.

What's your favorite social network?

Definitely Twitter. It is a fantastic newsgathering tool and a great way to engage with my audience and fellow journalists.

Why did you become a journalist?

Because I'm inquisitive and can write. I did one week's work experience in a newsroom in 2006 and was hooked.

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?

I revealed the release of foreign criminals from a detention centre in Dover after a long battle with the Home Office to access the figures.

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

Write lots and try to learn something new every day. In the digital age, journalism does not stand still.
