What was your first job as a journalist?

To interview owners of a local vegetarian bakery that had just launched in the neighbourhood.

Have you ever used a typewriter?

Yes, when I was 10 years old and I used my aunt's Brother model. I felt like a real grown up then.

How is social media changing news?

News is happening in real-time, shaking up the timeline of the way traditional news is told.

Who's your favorite fictional journalist?

When I find them I will let you know.

What does it mean to be a journalist?

To tell the truth and give those a voice, who need it the most.

I have yet to spot it.

What tools and software do you use to do your job?

Google Docs. Word (occasionally). I have a Dell laptop but I am curious about Apple Macs.

Why did you become a journalist?

A need to make a difference and tell people's stories. Also, I am a curious soul.

Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?

No, but I wish there was a student paper.

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?

When I interviewed President Zelenskyy's former aide.

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

Never give up, be tenacious and try to have a different angle on news.

When's the best time to pitch you?

Late afternoon is probably best as mornings can be really busy.

What's the best pitch you ever got?

I have yet to receive it.

What's the worst pitch you ever got?

It was an April Fool's joke PR. An egg filled with gravy.

What's your favorite drink?

Rum. Coffee.

When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?

Head buried in book or out reviewing a restaurant.

What's the most common misperception about your beat?

That editors are shouty people (they're not). They are lovely and kind and patient and massively busy.
