Letter to the editor: Pay-as-you-throw trash programs will raise your rates big time
On Sept. 10, the Summit County Board of County Commissioners voted to implement pay-as-you-throw through a 17-page ordinance. An ordinance which was touted as necessary in order to extend the life of the Summit County Resource Allocation Park, but in reality, it just allows local leaders to “check a box” while actual benefits are murky at best. The price will be high for this ordinance. Homeowners in Frisco and Breckenridge currently under pay-as-you-throw have reported rates doubling or more.
Letter to the editor: Politicians should always be chosen by voters, not vacancy committees
As a Summit County Democrat, I was dismayed to learn on Sunday, July 21, that our national party would be taking a similar course of action used by Summit County Democratic Party. What’s that? Selecting future candidates through a committee instead of a vote by the people. Despite recent rhetoric around democracy in peril, it seems the Democratic Party may have been the pot calling the kettle black.
Letter to the editor: The glaring issue with the proposed short-term rental bill
I’d like to offer some clarity to an opinion piece authored by Ari Rabin-Havt regarding Colorado Senate Bill 33, called the Lodging Property Tax Treatment. Tech Giants are buying and selling our public debates to each other, and it has to stop
Corporate-branded hashtags may seem trivial, but they point to serious structural issues undermining some of our most important conversions. Rich Mason explains. Yesterday, a few days on from the launch of our latest Future Work Centre report, I logged into Twitter to see the response. Had it begun to foster a broader, more imaginative thinking about the future of work, as we had hoped?
Straws in the wind… which future of work are we heading for?
Today we release our Four Futures of Work report, the result of an extensive research period for the RSA Future Work Centre. Faced with a panoply of radically disruptive technologies and socio-economic uncertainties, this report is our attempt to bring clarity, and provide a basis for positive action to ensure a future of good work for all. What can we do to prepare for a future of work about which so much is speculated, but so little can be known with certainty?
The four futures of work: coping with uncertainty in an age of radical technologies
Four Futures of Work, from the RSA Future Work Centre, which follows RSA chief executive Matthew Taylor’s employment review for the Prime Minister, argues that policy-makers should focus more on how automation will transform all work, not just lead to job losses.
Is a four-day week the future of work?
Calls for a four-day working week appear to be gathering momentum. To its advocates, a world of work where we are both happier and more productive is within our reach. So could a four-day week become the norm? The early results are in, and they’re encouraging. A much-cited study from New Zealand has yielded very encouraging outcomes. Financial advice company Perpetual Guardian shifted its entire workforce to four days.
