NOAA Drought Outlook Seasonal - Aug., Sept., Oct.
Since mid-June 2020, changes in drought severity were highly variable, with areas of improvement intertwined with areas of intensification. But overall, there was more deterioration than improvement. A few areas of rapid intensification (2 or more categories) were noted in New England (primarily Maine), much of the Plains, and part of the upper Midwest.
NOAA Monthly Drought Outlook - January
Changes to drought conditions have been a mixed bag this past month. A trend toward gradual improvement continued in the Four Corners states, and drought also eased in most of the Southeast, across California and Nevada, and through parts of central and southern Texas. Across Deep South and Eastern Texas, however, conditions deteriorated, as they did in southernmost Florida and parts of the central Great Plains.
NOAA Drought Outlook Seasonal - Jan., Feb., March
Heavy rain in the short-term should eliminate spotty drought from the Florida Panhandle into northern Georgia. Improvements are also expected in northeastern Texas, much of the Four Corners Region, northern Idaho, southeastern Alaska, and Hawaii. The moderate drought in Washington and Oregon should remain, although conditions may fluctuate in western parts of the region as the wet season progresses.
NOAA Monthly Drought Outlook - July
Drought coverage remained historically low across the contiguous United States through June 25. For July 2019, however, persistence and some drought expansion should be much more common than improvement. Above normal temperatures and generally subnormal rainfall is expected in the Northwest. Drought should persist there, expanding to cover north-central Oregon and most of Washington by month’s end.
