Richard Fidler’s Biography

Wow a 1,000 words to describe myself. Is that even possible these days when a news story can be written in less than 140 characters?
Offline I'm a husband, father and loyal friend.
Online I'm a night editor and someone who wants to share my experience of news and sport with as many people as possible.
I work for a local daily newspaper in Sheffield, England, but my route here has been long and winding.
First of all I was a professional footballer for Leeds United and Hull City. I was good, but not quite good enough to make a lifetime career out of it.
So I went to university and while there landed a job with a top PR firm in Sheffield.
It was there than I learned to write.
Sport was always been my first passion and I decided to use that and my business knowledge to set up a magazine called re:play.
It was considered a success and we were short listed as best sports magazine in the UK Sport Business Awards of 2005.
After six years in business the opportunity to work on the sports desk of The Star was too good to turn down.
The highlight was covering the 2012 Olympic Games in London. It was an amazing experience and hopefully I can top it one day!
Since 2013 I have been The Star's night editor. I have really enjoyed my move into a more senior position and now work right across the organisation from editorial to advertising and newspaper sales to digital.
