What was your first job as a journalist?
One I still do now: reporting on Sheffield Sharks basketball team. Still very important to me.
Have you ever used a typewriter?
Not for work!
How is social media changing news?
It's changing the news agenda. What leads is now what people are talking about rather than telling them what is important.
Who's your favorite fictional journalist?
Peter Parker
What does it mean to be a journalist?
It means being in a very privileged position. A position that should never be abused.
How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?
Email is best. Although posted letters are becoming so unique they often receive more attention...but follow up with an email!
What's your favorite social network?
Has to be Twitter. Still the breaking news tool for journalists. Away from work I really like Instagram.
Why did you become a journalist?
Because I love sport and the next best thing other than playing it is writing about it. That and wanting to tell the story of what happened.
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
Writing about Jess Ennis winning gold in London. I've known her since she was 17 so it was the end of a long journey.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Get out there and do it! And always listen to more experienced journos. Right or wrong, they're worth your time.
Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?
I really enjoy ESPN The Magazine. Being a sports fan, with a love of American sport, it feels really special when it lands on the doormat.
