Interview
Have you ever used a typewriter?
Surprisingly, yes.
How is social media changing news?
Real time information. Accessibility is so simplified but also such a fine line between appropriate and overboard.
What does it mean to be a journalist?
For me, being a journalist means finding a way to put a perspective together in a way that’s engaging and endearing to any reader.
How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?
Emails are best. I check mine regularly, and prefer to keep all business inquiries in one place as much as possible.
What's your favorite social network?
Twitter and Instagram. Facebook is ok, but there’s a lot of… rhetoric… there.
Who do you wish followed you?
Scott Van Pelt, Bomani Jones and Mina Kimes.
Why did you become a journalist?
I have a passion for sports, no doubt. But I also just love telling a story and hearing stories. Learn something new every day.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
I did not.
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
My very first piece for Cat Crave was an article on Frankie Luvu and how he was in the midst of a breakout season.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Just start doing it. That’s what I’m doing. Nothing is going to happen for you if you’re not actively trying.
When's the best time to pitch you?
Anytime, honestly, but I suppose the mornings make sense.
What's your favorite drink?
Water! I also appreciate how my favorite drink helps my other drinks come to be..
When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?
With my wife and son, probably trying to burn as much energy outside as possible.
Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?
The Athletic. They have a ton of great writers over there.
