Poetry from classical music; here are the 2025 Inspired By KPAC Written Word entries
Texas Public Radio put out the call for students in our listening area to share how classical music inspires them, and in the Written Word category of "Inspired By KPAC," these three entries demonstrate how the sounds on KPAC 88.3 FM can inspire creativity in other art forms beyond music. The winners in the Written Word category will be announced at a live event on Saturday, March 22, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. The public is invited to attend, at TPR's Malú and Carlos Alvarez Theater.

Holiday season manifestation
Opinions Ricky Rodriguez, Senior Writer There’s magic in the air. Joy is currently making its way past your brain’s version of TSA — trying to not be late for what should be the best time of the year. Joy is eagerly waiting to make this holiday season everything you need it to be — for you and everyone you love. What do you do to prepare for an abundant season? What do you consider to be positively abundant in your life?
Is our campus truly supportive of the LGBTQIA+ community?
As a Queer/non-binary person on a campus that likes to ignore rather than address, I’ve noticed tension in a number of spaces when homophobia, transphobia and other forms of violence are being talked about — and rightfully so, violence in general is disturbing. The majority of the people tensing up, however, are cis/straight people.
Best poetry reads for November 2022
Every person that has yet to immerse themselves in poetry or the literary arts needs to realize that they’re missing out. Yes, traditional forms of writing we’ve been conditioned to believe are “real poetry” have discouraged a multitude of people from diving deep into something so special. Not to mention, academia and writing as a whole have been gatekept by cis-white-heterosexual men and excluded marginalized writers or any writing that presented itself as a threat to the establishment.
Take care of yourself, and look at some pretty trees while you’re at it
Pumpkin Spice. Scarves. Crunchy leaves. Small jumps over puddles. ‘Orbit’ by Nao. Tender-smelling candles. Gold jewelry. Smiling more. Windy breezes that are cold enough to wake you up for your 8 a.m. Monsters, Inc. Hot chocolate. Blasting Taylor Swift. Romanticizing the perfect work set-up. Actually organizing my Google Calendar. Calling my grandma and telling her I love her. Cooking food that reminds me of home. Being kinder to myself. These are some of the things Fall reminds me of.
Why everyone should have a sex playlist
Let’s be real: the vast majority of us love music. Whether you’re blasting Paramore while walking to class or laying on your bed hoping Giveon can cure your love hangover, music is an integral part of who we are, how we build community and easing the pain in any healing process we go through. Even though music is extremely important, a lot of people neglect to acknowledge its role in the most intimate things we engage with. In this case, I’m talking about sex. Yes. Sex.
Why Don't We Say Hi? - The Bucknellian
You know when you’re walking on the quad and you see someone you had an awesome conversation with at super. You’re smiling. You’re ready to ask them how their day is going—a catalyst to potentially make each other laugh again. Then they look you dead in the eye and don’t mirror your smile. They even look at you in some type of way. You get sad. You’re confused. You feel weird about feeling weird. You start overthinking everything.
Tip Your Bartenders
You know when it’s Friday night, you’re getting ready with your girlies and everything seems to be going right. Your makeup is popping, your outfit compliments every single part of you and your main objective for the night is to have fun; to enjoy every precious moment with your precious friends; to put all the BS to the side and shake it the way it was meant to be shaken. But then, you lose your ID. Your sneaky link isn’t answering your texts.
RAs: Does the School do Enough to Compensate Them?
College is about living, about loving, and of course, laughing. College is about intentionally engaging with the world around you, especially the people that bring out the best in you. College is about discovering who you are and building a foundation strong enough to support you on the journey to becoming who you want to be. All these things, this idea of an amazing experience, is not attainable nor does it come easy to all people.
Why are we (still) gatekeeping students from textbooks?
There’s no reason as to why required textbooks for university/community college classes should cost more than a dime. There’s no reason as to why PDF versions of textbooks should be difficult to access. There’s no reason as to why college students should be required to use textbooks if they’re not going to read more than one chapter from it during the duration of the semester.
Things You Need to Listen to During the Month of September
Summer is gone. It’s quite literally packing its bags and heading off into its temporary beach house – yes, it’s in Southern California. The only place most of us will find comfort this chilly fall is in our camera rolls; in our private spotify playlists; in the screenshot folder as we relive what could’ve been. How do we tap into that nostalgia?
