What was your first job as a journalist?

Reporting on football for a London-based agency.

Have you ever used a typewriter?

Yes, but not for many years.

How is social media changing news?

Engaging more people which is good. Airing unsubstantiated stories which is bad.

What tools and software do you use to do your job?

Laptop, phone, PC.

Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?

No.

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?

Storybook Dads scheme for fathers in prison and parents serving in the armed forces to record bedtime stories for their kids.

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

Question everything, especially what you've written yourself.

When's the best time to pitch you?

Mornings, first thing. Every day.

What's the worst pitch you ever got?

To interview a racing driver who was too young to shave about his shaving routine. We couldn't ask him about his driving.

When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?

Running, on a bike or in a pub watching football.
