Birmingham city council said removing British flags lining the streets would cost £2.6m, court documents reveal. The bankrupt council – run by a coalition of Liberal Democrats, Greens and independents – said removal works would cost the equivalent of £132 per flag. St George's and Union Jack flags have been plastered across Britain since last year as part of Operation Raise the Colours, a movement in favour of promoting national pride.

More than 1,000 Bank of England staff took up the opportunity to work abroad last year, The Telegraph can reveal. Under the Bank's work from abroad policy, staff spent 12,889 days working overseas in 2025, figures obtained by The Telegraph show. Around 5,500 employees at the Bank are eligible to work from foreign countries for up to 40 days per year, in addition to being allowed to work remotely within the UK three days a week. At least four people were injured, three of whom were taken to hospital. One victim suffered serious injuries, while two others were moderately hurt.

El Mencho, the founder of the notorious Jalisco New Generation Cartel, was Mexico’s most wanted man. Mexico will auction the plot of land where a drug kingpin was killed in a shoot-out with the army. Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, known as “El Mencho”, was killed in a country club hideout in the mountains. He was the country’s most-wanted drug lord. The land where February’s military operation took place will be auctioned alongside more than 200 other properties later this week.
