What does it mean to be a journalist?
It means you get out of bed every morning doing a job you love. It means you are helping people out. It means you have a critical mind.
What's the funniest news-related #hashtag you've seen?
. Witty, to the point, and resonant.
How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?
I need to be told who needs to know this and why? I need to be sure that this is still going to be important in seven days time.
What tools and software do you use to do your job?
Jazbox, Drupal, Newsnow.co.uk. Enthusiasm and motivation.
What's your favorite social network?
Twitter. Always up-to-date, always changing, and a great place to air and hear a range of views.
Who do you wish followed you?
Stephen Fry. If my stuff is making that guy think then I'm heading in the right direction.
Why did you become a journalist?
To make myself, and others, think about how things can be better.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
I co-founded a quarterly publication at my high school to cover school news, local news, and general features.
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
Interviewing Guillem Balague. Although not widely known to those outside of sport, Guillem was a really influential figure for me and a gent.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Never stop thinking about new ideas. Write as often as you can. See everything as an opportunity.
