Robert Gleason | The value of political parties
A recent article in The Tribune-Democrat lamented the fact that more than 1 million Pennsylvania voters are registered as independent and thus were unable to vote in the May 19 primary election. Most of these voters knew that when they registered independent, they would not be able to vote in primary elections as Pennsylvania is a closed primary state. A person can only vote in the primary elections for the party for which he or she is registered, Republican or Democrat. kAm!@=:E:42= A2CE:6D :?
Siding with Putin shames our defenders of freedom
Several days ago there was supposed to be a meeting between the President of the United States and the President of Ukraine to sign a mineral rights agreement between the two countries. What ensued was an absolute disgrace and made the United States appear to say we are no longer standing with our allies, but rather standing with a murderous dictator. Vice-President J.D. Vance accused President Zelenskyy of not thanking President Trump for his support.
Lawrence Feinberg and Robert Gleason | Setting the record straight on cyber charter reform
Gov. Josh Shapiro and a growing number of legislators from both sides of the aisle are calling for changes to the way cyber charter schools in Pennsylvania are funded and operate. And more importantly, once you know the truth, you should, too. Despite what the ads say, cyber charter schools are not “free.” School districts and their taxpayers are required to pay tuition to the cyber charter school for every student who enrolls.

HB 1422 cyber charter reform - a bipartisan call to get it done
School boards in 466 out of Pennsylvania’s 500 school districts have passed board resolutions calling for common-sense reforms to the state’s 26-year-old charter school law, such as those included in House Bill 1422. That’s several thousand locally elected, volunteer school directors — Republicans and Democrats — responsible for levying taxes on their neighbors in order to fund public education.

It’s time for charter school reform [column]
Every state budget includes negotiated agreements on a variety of policy issues. Yet, despite bipartisan calls for comprehensive charter school reform, once again the Pennsylvania General Assembly has put this year’s budget to bed without any significant reforms to the charter school law — which is widely recognized as one of the worst in the country.

Greenhouse gas fluxes of a shallow lake in south-central North Dakota, USA
Greenhouse gas (GHG) fluxes of aquatic ecosystems in the northern Great Plains of the U.S. represent a significant data gap. Consequently, a 3-year study was conducted in south-central North Dakota, USA, to provide an initial estimate of GHG fluxes from a large, shallow lake. Mean GHG fluxes were 0.02 g carbon dioxide (CO2) m−2 h−1, 0.0009 g methane (CH4) m−2 h−1, and 0.0005 mg nitrous oxide (N2O) m−2 h−1.
