The Brutal Lifecycle of JavaScript Frameworks - Stack Overflow Blog
JavaScript UI frameworks and libraries work in cycles. Every six months or so, a new one pops up, claiming that it has revolutionized UI development. Thousands of developers adopt it into their new projects, blog posts are written, Stack Overflow questions are asked and answered, and then a newer (and even more revolutionary) framework pops up to usurp the throne.
fard - Can you give me information about the "Five pillars of Islam"? - Islam Stack Exchange
There are two main reasons why we call them pillars. The first is that they are arkaan (pillars), which is a technical term in the science of deriving law (usool-ul-fiqh). The technical definition of a pillar (rukn) is something that, if it is missing, then whatever it holds up is broken. Similarly, these five pillars are the foundational basis of Islam, like pillars of a building.
How do I achieve a light and even 'dusting' of paprika?
I'm trying to perfect my seared and roasted pork loin chops, and I'm hitting a bit of an obstacle. Part of my recipe involves a very light dusting of smoked paprika after being seared, prior to going into the oven. That seems easy enough, but it turns out to be quite difficult to sprinkle a very light, and even dusting of it on the chops. I'm holding the paprika back because it gets a tad bitter on a very hot skillet, needed for searing.
523 errors (Origin is unreachable) accessing Stack Exchange sites
We ran into issues upgrading our edge routers that talk to cloudflare. TL;DR; We ran into a LACP bug so depending on how the traffic was hashed once it hit our infrastructure it may or may not have traveled down a LAG member port that worked. We run Cisco Nexus 5k's in a redundant pair using Virtual Port Channels. When installing the first router for the upgrade, I had not setup the VPC on both sides. This caused the LACP bond on the router to flap and break in new and interesting ways.
Link-only answers: bad. But what about link-only tag wikis?
We had the same discussion on GIS SE Meta about 18 months ago as Are Tags wikis with just an URL Ok? My answer there, which was the most upvoted and accepted, was: I think a tag wiki with just a bare URL should be rejected so you have my full support on the policy outlined in your Question. This may sometimes be coming about because new tag wiki writers are trying to write the tag wiki itself where the tag excerpt should go, because it is presented first.
Can we do something about the "graduated" label?
I think we should consider doing away with the label entirely. The whole concept of waiting for "graduation" to get the features you need is too restrictive… no matter what you call it. Instead, we should be looking at unbundling all the features that communities can really use when they have sufficient support to use them effectively. What does this hierarchy really mean anyway? We have this growing middle class of "non-graduated" sites that doing fine in their own right.
Determining if a female cat was spayed
When cats are desexed as part of a "catch and release" program (to manage ferals), the medical staff usually clip the tip of one ear (use of this practice varies with providers). So, if the cat is missing an ear tip, she is probably spayed. You can also look at her stomach. If there is a scar, that's a good indication that she has been spayed. It's not a 100% indicator (she may have had abdominal surgery and not a spay), but it's highly likely.
Policy for informing Stack Exchange about illegit Stack Overflow merchandise
Since it is up to Stack Exchange, Inc to enforce their trademark, there is little the community can do. The best course of action is to contact the SE Community team directly via the contact us link in the footer of every page. Or by emailing them at team@stackexchange.com. The process is probably going to be similar to reporting a scrapper since they are going to need most of the same info.
Earth Science Stack Exchange
Natural catastrophic events such as hurricanes, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and meteor impacts releases vast amount of energy. What is the most powerful single event of such nature ever recorded in human history on the planet Earth? And as a measure of energy release, how many atomic bombs or megatons of TNT is that equivalent to? What kind of event releases most energy? How would the most powerful events compare with modern day natural disasters, to give some sense of perspective.
Finding a gold ring lost in the lawn
First of all, do not assume it is in the garden unless you are absolutely certain. If there is any possibility it is somewhere else, then those other places must be systematically searched. Do not use a rake. Do not walk around on, or otherwise disturb in any way the search area. Randomly casting around for the object is a bad idea. The way to find the ring is to systematically search the search area. To do this with a plot of ground, like a backyard, what you should do is string it with a grid.
It is good practice to use deleted post as a draft?
I've tried that; it works, sort of… but it isn't really a good practice. The problem is that when you post a question or an answer, the question is listed or bumped to the top of the front page and question lists. However, when you delete that post, it continues to be listed on those pages, even though you deleted it, sometimes for hours (blame it on performance caching). Deleting a draft question is a bit more problematic than deleting a draft answer.
How far would you need to fall for it to be fatal?
There is no specific distance from which a person can fall and have it said they will survive or not survive. There are simply too many other variables that will dominate the factor of "distance." In 1971, flight attendant Vesna Vulović fell 33,333 ft (10,160 meters) and survived without a parachute. On the other hand 556,000 people died in 2013 from slip-and-fall accidents from essentially 0 ft.
What types of product (add-on) support questions should be allowed?
This question is not about whether add-ons should be discussed on our Stack Exchange site (I think we probably all agree they should!). It is more about the type of questions. It seems like the push, at least on Stack Overflow, is for questions that are specifically about programming, would be likely to generate an answer that is of use to the community at large, and would have lasting value.
Are requests for add-on recommendations within the scope of this site, and should they be?
I've noticed a couple of questions like these two recently, where the questioner is asking for add-on recommendations. I didn't find anything in the FAQ that seemed to discourage this type of question, but my gut tells me it isn't really the kind of question we want to encourage. How do you feel about this?
Bug reports as questions
I'm in two minds about this. While I realize Stack Exchange say these types of questions don't work, and from the start people have been clear they don't want to see bug reports or feature requests here, I've still yet to see what the actual problem is.
Stack Exchange Gives Back 2014
background December 24, 2014 There are few things that make me more proud to be part of the Stack Exchange community than the outpouring of good will that comes during our “Giving Back” program. Each year we set this time aside to remember the organizations and people who need our help by offering to make a $100 donation to… There are few things that make me more proud to be part of the Stack Exchange community than the outpouring of good will that comes during our “Giving Back” program.
