New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy should ask more gun safety questions
Gov. Phil Murphy signed an executive order tracking gun crimes in New Jersey, the number of victims, type of guns, where they were purchased and what offenses were charged. This falls short of getting the data that could make a difference. A few common-sense additions to the executive order can be supported by everyone. This would put the focus on the criminal and also the judicial system in New Jersey, which is there to protect us from further abuses by offenders.

IRS Relaxes Offer In Compromise Rules
Since 2012 the IRS has been much more willing to compromise with taxpayers with overwhelming tax debt than in the prior decade. IRC §7122 permits the IRS to accept offers in compromise in settlement of tax obligations for less than the full outstanding tax liabilities. The willingness of the IRS to exercise this authority has ebbed and flowed through the years. In 2012 as part of its Fresh Start initiatives, the IRS greatly liberalized the standards that it uses for acceptable offers.

Reducing IRS Penalties
This article is more than 8 years old. Internal Revenue Service (Photo credit: saturnism) Each year the IRS assesses millions of penalties against taxpayers. Most taxpayers are unaware that post-assessment the IRS also abates many of those same penalties. During fiscal year 2012 the IRS assessed 37 million penalties against taxpayers.
