2027 NBA Season Preview: Pacific Division
The once mighty Pacific Division has fallen far, placing in my opinion as the weakest of the six divisions in the NBA, with one playoff team, a few play-in hopefuls, and one bottom-feeder.

Our player preview series for the 2027 Clippers continues with one of the newest additions to the team, young guard Gradey Dick.

TLTJP: Nico Retires & the State of the Clippers Roster
Dr. Shap and I got together last night and somehow recorded an hour-long podcast about the Clippers here in late September 2026. We started off covering the news of Clippers’ legend Nic Batum retiring before moving on to examining the team before training camp, debating potential starting lineups, and discussing the key X-factors to the season. Check out the podcast embedded below on Spreaker, or listen on whatever platform you like, including Spotify, Apple Podcasts, iHeart, and more.

Clippers and Ballmer Accept NBA Punishment, Proceed with Kawhi Leonard Trade
Over a week and a half of silence from the Clippers organization was broken Sunday night, when owner Steve Ballmer released a statement that he and the team have accepted the NBA’s punishment for salary cap circumvention and will not be moving forward with legal action.
2027 Player Preview: Jalen Pickett
Our player preview series for the Clippers’ 2027 season starts with their third-string point guard, Jalen Pickett.
2027 NBA Preview: The Atlantic Division
The final Eastern Conference division covered in my preview of the 2027 NBA season is also probably the strongest division in the entire NBA, featuring four championship contenders and the woeful Brooklyn Nets.
TLTJTP: Clippers Get Crushed by NBA for Cap Circumvention
It’s now been over a full day since the NBA brought a hammer down on the Clippers for cap circumvention, which meant Lucas Hann and I did an hour-long podcast giving our thoughts on all angles. Do we think the Clippers did it? What was the most interesting part of the report released by the NBA? Who should take most of the blame for the circumvention? Where do the Clippers go from here? All these questions and more were discussed.
Clippers Hammered by NBA for Kawhi Leonard Cap Circumvention
The NBA finally handed out their punishment to the Clippers for the Kawhi Leonard Aspiration saga, and it was a big one, with the Clippers getting something close to the maximum penalty. The Clippers are losing five first round draft picks (one each from 2029 to 2033), Steve Ballmer is getting fined $30M, and Ballmer, Lawrence Frank, and Gillian Zucker are all getting suspensions of various lengths.
2027 NBA Preview: Central Division
The Central Division is one of the most stacked in the NBA, featuring a 60-win team, a conference finalist, and an NBA Finals runner-up from 2025, all of whom are gearing up for contention in 2027.
TLTJTP: Strus Trade, Beal Signing, and Kawhi Update
Shap, Lucas, and I recorded a new episode of The Lob The Jam The Podcast yesterday, with the main discussion points being the Max Strus trade, Bradley Beal signing, and Kawhi Leonard situation update. We also talked about potential starting lineups for the Clippers, their related roster crunch, the importance of Yanic Konan Niederhauser, and the Clippers’ place in the projected Western Conference standings.
The Clippers Are Trading for Max Strus
The Clippers just can’t stop making moves, with news breaking just now that they are acquiring guard/forward Max Strus from the Cavs as part of a multi-team deal that is also sending Peyton Watson to the Cavs. The Clippers are rerouting the second round pick they got in the Johni Broome trade to the Cavs, as well as sending over the rights to Ismael Kamagate. The Clippers do not need to send out any salary in this deal, as Strus’ 16.6M salary fits right into the John Collins TPE.
There Was An Update on the Aspiration Story…. Kind Of
Today, rather out of nowhere, ESPN published a lengthy article giving a detailed update on the NBA’s investigation into the Clippers for the Kawhi-Aspiration saga. The article was credited to Shams Charania (ESPN’s leading NBA newsbreaker), Ramona Shelbourne (their leading LA reporter), Baxter Holmes (lead NBA investigative journalist), and Don Van Natta Jr. (another investigative journalist).
2027 NBA Preview: The Southeast Division
The Southeast Division was once again middling last year, with four teams making the postseason, but none of them advancing beyond the first round or winning more than 45 regular season games. However, every team but the Magic overhauled their team either at the 2026 deadline (Wizards) or this past offseason (Heat, Hornets, Hawks), so there are some real expectations from top to bottom in the Southeast for the first time in a long time.
Clippers Re-Sign Bradley Beal to Two-Year Deal
In somewhat shocking mid-August news, Shams Charania of ESPN has reported that the Clippers are bringing back veteran guard Bradley Beal on a two-year, $13.2M deal, with the second year being a player option. Law Murray of the Athletic confirmed the story, with the add-on that the player option only has $3M guaranteed. This is shocking on multiple levels. First off, the Beal signing last offseason was a disaster, one of the moves that sunk the Clippers in the first two months of last season.
Where Are They Now: Mfiondu Kabengele
You know it’s the offseason when the “Where Are You Now” series restarts on 213 Hoops. I annually review the careers of a few former Clippers since they left the team, focusing on players that have not stuck around the NBA that Clippers fans will know less about. First up in this offseason is Mfiondu Kabengele. Clippers Tenure Fi was taken by the Nets with the 27th pick in the 2019 Draft, but the Clippers traded for his rights on draft night, sending away a future pick.
Clippers to Sign Jalen Pickett to Two-Way Deal
The Clippers keep coming up with moves even as the NBA calendar has shifted firmly into its dead zone, with Mike Scotto of Hoops Hype breaking the news today that the Clippers will sign point guard Jalen Pickett to a two-way deal. Nobody else has confirmed the signing, to my knowledge, but nobody has denied it either, and Scotto has been reliable enough that I’m assuming he is correct on this one.
TLTJTP: Entering the Dead Days of the Offseason
There’s not a ton to talk about in late July/early August in the NBA, but by god Lucas and I found a way to go 50 minutes on The Lob The Jam The Podcast regardless. Our latest episode covered the updates (or lack thereof) to the Kawhi Leonard situation, the Clippers’ trade for Johni Broome, and the Bennedict Mathurin restricted free agent standoff. I’ve placed the Spotify link to the podcast below, but you can also find the pod on Apple, Spreaker, and basically every other major podcast platform.
Clippers Trade for Johni Broome from Sixers
The Clippers traded for Sixers forward Johni Broome today to help round out their roster, sending cash considerations to the Sixers and receiving a second round pick for their troubles to help the Sixers clear a roster spot to sign Kentavious Caldwell-Pope. Broome was the 35th pick in last year’s (stacked) draft, meaning the Sixers are bailing quite early on him as a prospect.
Placing the Clippers in the Western Conference in Late July
Well, the NBA offseason has entered its quiet stage. The last big piece of business (LeBron James’ free agency) is done, with all that’s left most likely being restricted free agents (Jalen Duren, Peyton Watson, Bennedict Mathurin), minimum signings, and two-way deals. So, with the dust settled in the West, where do the Clippers look like they’ll place? First off, this is assuming the Kawhi trade to the Raptors does move forward.
Clippers Sign Jamarion Sharp to Two-Way Deal
With Summer League over, the dog days of the NBA calendar are here, with nothing really on the calendar for months and the only big item left unchecked being LeBron James’ free agency, which will not impact the Clippers. Therefore, I was mildly surprised when some Clippers news came out of the blue today with the report that they have signed Jamarion Sharp to a two-way deal. You will be forgiven for not knowing who Sharp is even if you’re a massive NBA fan.
Clippers 2026 Summer League Recap
First off, as always with Summer League, a huge grain of salt with everything. I value Summer League less and less every year – while it’s fun, and it’s good to see NBA rookies log their first minutes in team uniforms, it’s almost useless as an evaluation tool due to the slapdash nature of the rosters and the lack of team cohesion. That said, here are some thoughts.
Clippers 2026 Summer League, Game 4 Thread
The Clippers have alternated awful performances (Games 1 and 3) with a very good one (Game 2), so hopefully tonight they can replicate their Game 2 performance and bounce back from their blowout loss to the Lakers last night. The Clippers play at 7:30 PM ET on ESPN against the Wizards, though unfortunately Keaton Wagler is out for rest, while Cam Christie is sitting with ankle soreness.
Clippers 2026 Summer League, Game 3 Thread
The Clippers play their third Summer League game of 2026 tonight, against the hated Lakers. After a miserable first game in Vegas, the Clippers were mostly quite good in the 2nd game, blowing out the Jazz behind a knockout third quarter punch. Almost everyone who received a lot of minutes played well for the Clippers outside of Cam Christie, with the three standouts being their rookies: Keaton Wagler, Baba Miller, and Nick Martinelli.
Clippers 2026 Summer League, Game 2 Thread
The Clippers play their second Summer League game tonight at 7:00 PM PT on Amazon Prime against the Utah Jazz and number 2 overall pick Darryn Peterson. The Clippers lost their first game of Summer League in a contest that was so hideous it was not worth writing about. Quite honestly, I take Summer League less and less seriously every year, so I probably won’t have notes or a recap for any of these games, though I will give my overall thoughts at the end of Summer League. Comment on the game below!
Clippers 2026 Summer League, Game 1 Thread
The Clippers kick off their first Summer League game of 2026 tonight against the Sacramento Kings at 8 PM ET on ESPN. This should be a fun one, as we can watch the Clippers’ prized rookie, Keaton Wagler, square off against the Kings’ dynamic rookie, Darius Acuff, who the Clippers were thinking about taking with the 5th pick. There are other interesting players in this one, of course, but those are the two headliners.
Clippers 2026 Summer League Preview
The Clippers will have their most anticipated Summer League since 2018 due to the presence of prized rookie Keaton Wagler. But what about the rest of the roster? Here’s a quick rundown on everyone the Clippers are bringing to Vegas, ranging from potential franchise cornerstones to guys you will probably never see again.
Clippers Sign Rui Hachimura to Two-Year Deal
The Clippers covered up their gaping hole at power forward today, with Shams Charania of ESPN reporting that they will sign Rui Hachimura to a two-way deal worth $28M. Law Murray of the Athletic followed up with a note that the second year of the contract is a team option, not a fully guaranteed contract. Hachimura is a 6’8, 240 pound forward who just completed his 7th season in the NBA.
Clippers Re-Sign Jordan Miller To Three Year Deal
Two minutes after I wrote an article going over the Clippers’ offseason thus far and discussing potential future moves, Shams Charania of ESPN reported that the Clippers have come to terms with wing Jordan Miller on a new 3 year, $15.3M contract. Law Murray of the Athletic chimed in a bit later to note that only the first year of the deal will be guaranteed. Just like the Kobe Sanders deal, I don’t have much to say about this one.
Clippers 2026 Offseason Update: Entering July 4 Weekend
After an action-packed first day of free agency, the Clippers have been dead silent the past two days. However, the NBA has certainly not been quiet, with a steady stream of trades and free agent signings taking talent off the board. Here’s a quick look at the Clippers’ roster after the first week of free agency and who their targets might be to fill out their roster.
Clippers Re-Sign Kobe Sanders to Four Year Deal
Buried in the Kawhi Leonard trade news yesterday came the much less shocking news that the Clippers had signed Kobe Sanders to a 4-year, $11.2M deal, with the first two seasons guaranteed and the last two non-guaranteed. For those who can do some quick math, that’s an average of less than $3M per season, or under a veteran’s minimum for players that have been in the NBA a good amount of time. There’s honestly not a ton to say about this deal – it’s a really good piece of business by the Clippers.
Clippers Trade Kawhi Leonard to Raptors for Brandon Ingram and Picks
The Kawhi Leonard era is over in Los Angeles after seven years, with the Clippers trading Kawhi to the Toronto Raptors for Brandon Ingram, Gradey Dick, unprotected first round picks in 2031 and 2033, a first round pick swap this year, and second round picks in 2030 and 2033. That is honestly quite a haul for Kawhi, who has one year left on his deal, is 35 years old, and has an infamous injury history. Let’s talk about the players coming the Clippers’ way.
Clippers Pick Up Brook Lopez’s Option, Decline Bogi & Batum
The Clippers made a series of moves today, with the most important being that they picked up Brook Lopez’s team option for $9.187M, declined Bogdan Bogdanovic’s team option for $16.02M, and declined Nic Batum’s team option of $5.881M. They also declined Jordan Miller and Kobe Sanders’ team options, but extended them qualifying offers to make them restricted free agents, and extended a qualifying offer to Bennedict Mathurin as well.
