100 Years of Russian Espionage in the U.S.
Traitors, my new geopolitical spy thriller, is a fictional account of a network of Russian agents that penetrates the highest levels of the U.S. government. Although some readers might dismiss this situation as unrealistic, history, unfortunately, suggests otherwise. Article continues after advertisement Russian espionage in the U.S. has been heavily documented since the 1930s.

Op-Ed: What Muslims Will Really Be Talking About Over the Halal Turkey This Thanksgiving
By Robert S. McCaw, Director of Government Affairs Department, Council on American-Islamic Relations Arriving, Gathering, and the First Sparks of Debate Like the rest of the nation, many Muslims celebrate Thanksgiving. Walk into any Muslim home on Thursday and you will see a familiar scene. A salaam and a hug at the door. Shoes off without even thinking about it. Kids racing between cousins they have not seen since Eid. A loud chorus of “Bismillah” before anyone touches the turkey.

Pro-Israel Senators Show Their Hand By Opposing Free Speech Protections in Now-Delayed Antisemitism Bill | Common Dreams
When Senate Republicans brought the so-called Antisemitism Awareness Act up for a committee vote last week, they were expecting an easy win. After all, the bill had the support of Senate Republican leaders, most Israel advocacy groups, and even some Democrats. Yet the bill faced an unexpected problem that may ultimately doom its passage.

Biden's Embrace of Irish-American Culture Should Include Solidarity with Palestine
Having grown up in Scituate, Massachusetts, a town with almost 50% residents of Irish descent, I was surrounded by reminders of the struggles our Irish ancestors faced in the United States. Framed "No Irish Need Apply" signs hung in family friends' homes, serving as poignant reminders of the discrimination Irish immigrants overcame since the 19th century.
An Accidental Experience Leads to a Novel
by Robert McCaw An unexpected experience can spark a novel. In the 1980s, I visited the summit of Mauna Kea, one of two 14,000-foot volcanoes that comprise most of Hawaii Island. My goal was to see the array of telescopes atop the mountain and experience the special place in Hawaii that is first to see the sunrise and last to enjoy the sunset. Along the switchback gravel road to the summit, a sign led me to discover the Mauna Kea Adze Quarry.
Misdirection Is the Secret Sauce of Plot Twists and Surprise Endings
Misdirection in fiction has a long and hallowed history, from Sophocles' tragedy Oedipus Rex to Shakespeare's Othello to the revelation of Darth Vader's identity in Star Wars. J. K. Rowling opined that "misdirection is the key to a good story." Margaret Atwood refers to misdirection as a "powerful tool." As the author of the Koa Kāne Hawaiian Mystery series, I love to incorporate misdirection in my novels.
The White House Cannot Ignore the Islamophobic Watchlist-It Must End It
When President Joe Biden ran for office in 2020, he promised the American Muslim community that he would respond to their concerns about the harmful impact of the federal terrorism watchlist and the no-fly list by reviewing both databases and changing the processes to remove names. Three years later, nothing has been done. And American Muslims are suffering the consequences.

Finding Inspiration At A Former Military Base on the Big Island
The Big Island of Hawaiʻi is a magical place. Moonscape lava fields and rain forests. Black sand beaches, palm trees, and snow atop Mauna Kea. Ancient kipukas surrounded by new volcanic flows. A lyrical language and an engaging mythological past. Ocean breezes and bubbling lava. Astronomical telescopes to tease out the secrets of the universe. Six of the world’s major climatic zones.
In Hawaii-set novels, author Robert McCaw builds an island of mysteries
Robert McCaw took his time writing his first book — 20 years, to be exact. To be fair, he was often busy working as an attorney in New York City, but says he was always tinkering with a novel in his spare time. “I started writing the first book probably in the late ’80s,” says McCaw from the La Jolla apartment where he lives half the year. “I would write a chapter while I was on vacation or when I was on an airplane. Sometimes I’d write it longhand, sometimes on a computer.
Research Gems: When What You Find Becomes Part of the Story
One of my joys while researching my Hawaiʻi novels is finding unexpected nuggets of language, geography, or history. I call these finds “gems.” In the following paragraphs, I’ll describe two such discoveries. The first plays a significant role in Treachery Times Two, the fourth Koa Kāne mystery (to be published in January 2022). The second finds its way into the fifth Koa Kāne novel, currently in draft form and as yet untitled.

4 Tips for Transitioning From Self-Publishing to Traditional Publishing: How I Found Writing Success After a DIY Start
In 2015, I self-published Death of a Messenger, my first novel in the Koa Kane series of murder mysteries set on Hawaii's Big Island. In the ensuing six years, a lot has happened! (20 literary agents actively seeking writers and their writing.) I found a terrific agent in Mel Parker of Mel Parker Books, LLC, with whom I embarked on my relationship with Oceanview Publishing.

Review | NetGalley
Review by Rekha R, Reviewer Last updated on 14 May 2020 Robert McCaw has explored so many plot angles in this marvellous thriller - politics and greed for money, a secret that binds the politicians for more than four decades, Koa's brother's illness and much more. Fire and Vengeance is an unputdownable and riveting mystery. Excellent character portrayal, mind-blowing plot-to-story development and a surprising ending, this book is surely one of my best reads of 2020. Highly recommended!
Interview with Robert B. McCaw
Robert McCaw’s third book in the Koa Kane Hawaiian Mysteries – Fire and Vengeance – is releasing on the 26th of May, 2020. Robert is a versatile and multi-talented author. Let’s hear what he has to say about himself and his latest book. 🙂 Hello Robert and welcome to my blog The Book Decoder. Tell me and my readers about yourself. I like to reinvent myself. I began life as an Army brat, attending twelve schools in twelve grades.
FIRE AND VENGEANCE
Coben’s latest darkest-suburbs thriller sets a decidedly offbeat detective on the trail of a crime with overtones unmistakably redolent of once and future presidential elections. Wilde is called Wilde because nobody’s known his real name from the moment a pair of hikers found him foraging for himself in Ramapo Mountain State Forest 24 years ago. Now over 40, he’s had experience as both a lost boy and a private investigator.

The Challenges of Getting Your Book Published
Self-publishing or traditional publishing? Author Robert McCaw has gotten his books published both ways and shares the pros and cons of each route. I’ve written several novels—mystery/thrillers set on the Big Island of Hawaii—featuring the Hilo Chief of Detectives as protagonist. I worked on the first of these, Death of a Messenger, for 20 years while I pursued a busy legal career until I finally finished the manuscript.
How Would Dr. King React to NSA Spying on Americans? | Common Dreams
How would Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., have reacted to recent revelations that the U.S. government is collecting and storing nearly every citizen's phone records and gathering their electronic data? From 1958 until his 1968 assassination, the FBI conducted extensive surveillance on Dr. King, amassing over 17,000 pages of material on his day-to-day activities. Today King's legacy as a civil rights leader is celebrated; there is even a federal holiday named after him.
