'It unravels from the bottom': Scientists work to save Louisiana's shrinking wetlands
GRAND ISLE, La. - Since the 1930s, Louisiana has lost roughly 2,000 square miles of wetlands -- one and a half times the area of the entire state of Rhode Island. So, to see the erosion, we decided to take a seaplane above the bayous and coastline with the National Wildlife Federation to see the erosion. Our first stop was over Barataria Bay and an estuary on the west side of the Mississippi River -- an area that has lost a lot of coastal wetlands over the last 80 years, says NWF's Alisha Renfrow.
Ask the Weather Guys: What is a ‘bomb cyclone’?
Q: What is a ‘bomb cyclone’?A: The term “bomb cyclone” refers to the formation and rapid development of a mid-latitude cyclone. A mid-latitude cyclone is a large-scale, low-pressure system, characteristic of the middle latitudes, that has counter-clockwise flow around its center (in the Northern Hemisphere).A primary measure of development in these storms is a drop in the atmospheric pressure at the center of the storm.
These Tweets About The Snow In Florida Prove Everyone's Freaking, & It’s Too Hilarious
Every year, throughout the winter months, we can usually expect to endure zero degree weather, continuous snowfall and long, cold nights — at least in Northern states, that is. Usually, us lucky Southerners get a pass, but this year, winter had a different idea for some of the warmest states and brought its worst conditions to the sunshine state of Florida, and we are totally freaking out.
podcasts and videos on the jump drive
posted 8 years ago 2 Number of slices to send: Optional 'thank-you' note: Okay, I shelled out a rather enormous amount of money and purchased 100 jump drives. Plus I sent a memory card and the data is being copied to the jump drives. Soon the jump drives will arrive. 44 people said they would shell out $60 for this. Now is the time to pony up. Please send $60 via paypal to paul at richsoil.com. Make sure that your paypal address is set right - cuz that's the address I plan on using.
should all permaculture stuff be for free?
posted 8 years ago 1 Number of slices to send: Optional 'thank-you' note: paul wheaton wrote: people who sell are clearly biased by their commercial position and to discuss this with them might be counterproductive in the sense that it may only aggravate them further... About three months ago, I gave everything away for free. And now I have started to sell some stuff. So I guess that discussing this issue with me might be counterproductive? what is wrong with greenhouses?
posted 9 years ago 1 Number of slices to send: Optional 'thank-you' note: Matt Ferrall wrote:"Greenhouse cultures use too many resources and create dependencies on water and energy"Sepp Holzer. With so many of the big names coming out against greenhouses,I thought it might be nice to have a thread open for critique of these resource intensive crutches. Resource intensive? I beg to differ with this. I use water, sunlight, and a light bulb when I'm in there. I use the greenhouse to start seeds.

herbs, diet to treat depression?
posted 10 years ago Number of slices to send: Optional 'thank-you' note: Has anyone here successfully treated clinical depression with herbs or diet? I'm very interested in getting off pharmaceuticals and hope to give it a try again in the coming months. Would like to see any of your personal successful treatments. Pot has been suggested but unfortunately that's not plausible for me to try. I also have high blood pressure (not weight related) and would like to treat that naturally as well.
ecologically sustainable development vs. permaculture
posted 11 years ago Number of slices to send: Optional 'thank-you' note: from wikipedia TIL: "ecologically sustainable development" is searched for more often than "permaculture". The thing that bugs me is that people type all of that in when searching for it. Might it be fair to say that people that are searching for "ecologically sustainable development" would be happier with the result set when searching for "permaculture"? Or, is their idea of "development" mean something I'm not thinking of?
