Letter to the editor: My Constitutional right to vote as I want
I received through the mail today a letter/survey asking me how I was going to vote in the next election. In the first place, it's no ones business how I vote in any election. It's my Constitutional right as an American to vote however I want. Having said that, I chose to vote not for any one party but for the person or program that I feel is best for my country and its people.
Letter to the editor: If not the wall, then do something
I have listened to everyone talking about building a wall along our southern border, both pro and con. Nancy Pelosi says no to the wall and let illegal immigrants come on in. I wonder if she is willing to take down the high wall she has around her property and let some of those people sleep on her front porch and lawns? Most of the people who say no to the wall have no idea what it is to have illegal immigrants running around on their property.
Letter to the editor: Congress is full of babies
I read on Facebook that everyone should tell President Trump and McConnell to grow up. I agree, but they are not the only ones that need to grow up and quit being babies. I think that the whole Congress and all of the so-called "lawmakers" in Washington, D.C., need to grow up and start working together. That's what the people sent them there for, not to sit in a plush chair, draw big money and fight each other over everything.
Letter to the editor: Lawmakers to blame for government shutdown
So we are in a government shutdown for a short period — we hope — thanks to the so-called lawmakers of this great country. That means that some of the people who are hard-working citizens of this great country will be without a paycheck for a while. I wonder if that means that the lawmakers will be sitting at home in their plush easy chairs without a check? Of course not; they will get paid no matter what happens. Now do you really believe that is fair? I don't.
Letter to the editor: Concerned about DACA
It looks like the hotly debated DACA issue has raised its angry head again. I don't recall ever being asked to vote on this. As I recall, it was just placed into law by the so-called powers that be that we were stuck with at the time, and no one deemed it necessary to add a stipulation that it be mandatory after a certain length of time the people that it affected would have to become citizens or leave the country.I really don't have a problem with the babies being here. They can't help themselves.
Community Voices: I'm not proud of how we're acting toward each other
I'm a senior citizen and very proud to be a veteran. I fly my American flag, I shoot guns and I'm very proud to live in the greatest country in the world and to have served that country. What I am not proud of is the way people are acting toward each other, the way they seem to be in a big hurry all the time. You would think this is some big city like L.A. or New York.
Letter to the editor: Are 2x4s next to be banned?
With all the talk about assault weapons, I wonder how many people know that civilian possession of a weapon capable of full auto fire has been illegal without a special license since 1938.Assault weapon refers to a weapon that only the military or police have. It is not something that the average citizen has or even should have.I don't know too much about the subject, nor did I want to.
Letter to the editor: Kids today show vulgarity, rudeness
A couple of days ago my wife and I were eating lunch at our favorite restaurant, when I happened to see a young man setting kitty-corner from us. His back was toward us and his right side was exposed to us to the point that I could see a hunting knife hanging from his belt.
Letter to the editor: Start enforcing gun laws
I am truly sorry, as most people are, about the shooting that happened in Florida, but let's face facts, people. You can talk all day about new gun laws but at the end of the day all you have is a lot of talk, no action.Until we stand up and demand that our so-called representatives force the justice system to enforce the laws that are already on the books, nothing is going to change. We, the people, can only blame ourselves for all these shootings.
Letter to the editor: Democrats didn't show respect at State of the Union
Well, they finally did it. The Democratic party showed their true colors when they disrespected my flag and country by their actions during the president's State of the Union speech. They were laughing among themselves and using their cell phones instead of listening to the speech and I bet they don't even know what was said. Some didn't bother to show up at all.I can't believe that the people who are supposed to be so intelligent can be so disrespectful.
Letter to the editor: Concerns about government shutdown continue today
I would like to start by saying thank you to all the senators, especially all the Democrats, who voted for the federal government shutdown. Thanks to you I can no longer afford to get some of the medications for myself and my wife. We are both seniors and in bad health. All of this is because you had to act like children and fight over cheap petty things that don't really matter.
Letter to the editor: Gas tax, taking away deductions hurt middle class, poor
Well, here we go again, folks. First the state raises the gas tax supposedly to repair the roads with it and as soon as that goes into effect, the government decides it needs to repair bridges and so what does it want to do to fix them? You guessed it, raise taxes on gas. When is it going to stop? Between raising our gas tax and taking away our tax deductions the rich and the politicians are the only ones who are going to survive.
Letter to the editor: People have lost sight of meaning of Christmas
A lot of folks will think I am out of my mind or just plain crazy and I have been known to be at times, but it seems to me that a lot of people have lost sight of what Christmas is all about. All I can see and hear these days is, "Where can I get the best deal?" or, "What are you going to buy me for Christmas?" or, "What are we going to do for Christmas?" in addition to arguing over who has the best decorations.People don't seem to care or even know what the true meaning of Christmas is.
Letter to the editor: Highway driving is not what it used to be
My wife and I were driving home from an emergency trip to Fresno the evening of Aug. 13.
Letter to the editor: Tehachapi changed long before Walmart
Well people, here we go again. Someone has taken it upon themselves to speak for everyone in the city of Tehachapi. I thought that when the so-called group, Tehachapi First, was defeated, the complaints about Walmart would be over. It seems I was wrong.
Letter to the editor: Make America great again
I have heard this statement for some time now, and I can't believe there are people foolish enough to believe we do not live in the greatest country in the world. God hasn't forgotten this country, it's the people who live here who have forgotten God — from the head of the so-called leaders to the lowest of the common person. Meaning no disrespect to the common person. This is supposed to be a land where anyone can speak their mind.
