Robert Hume Campo, originally from Georgia, developed a strong foundation of diligence, bravery, and responsibility early in life. These qualities have guided his actions throughout a career marked by dedication to safety and service. His professional journey began as a Lieutenant in the Fire Marshal office in Roswell, GA, where his interest in construction safety first took shape. He spent long hours reviewing blueprints to ensure fire and life safety compliance, building the skills to manage risk on complex construction sites.
Robert later accepted a significant role as a Safety Professional for a major project with General Motors Corporation in Rayong, Thailand. This international assignment required him to manage safety for a large-scale construction effort, representing a bold move both geographically and professionally. He approached the challenge with determination, taking on increased responsibilities and steadily focusing on maintaining safe work environments.
His career led him to the Marshall Islands, where Robert Hume worked on two projects under contract with the US Corps of Engineers. In this position, his responsibilities expanded to include environmental liaison duties and safety oversight in line with EM-385 compliance standards. His thorough and reliable approach ensured that safety and sustainability were upheld at every project stage.
After returning to the United States, he continued his work in the heavy civil engineering sector. He contributed to significant efforts with companies like Kiewit Construction and Ames Construction, applying his knowledge in active railroad construction, tunneling, mining, and open-pit operations. With various safety certifications and extensive field experience, Hume Campo was key in guiding safety practices and maintaining high standards across different job sites.
He also managed safety responsibilities for NavFac and Corps of Engineers projects in several states, extending his influence by instructing safety training courses and promoting awareness of best practices. His structured and focused approach helped reinforce a strong safety culture among teams.
2004, Robert was named AZ AGC Safety Professional of the Year, recognizing his persistent effort, leadership, and performance in high-pressure environments. Outside work, he has served as a volunteer EMT and firefighter, showing his continued commitment to serving others. He has also supported charitable organizations, including Toys for Tots, Shriners, Vietnam Veteran Memorial, Wounded Warriors, ASPCA, and the Humane Society.
