This J.Cole lyric is recited every morning by New York City based entertainment journalist Robin Johnson. The dreaming the rapper speaks of is all too familiar to the music lover- who spends her days combing through Soundcloud pages and music submissions sent by artists who hope to be featured on her young, growing, website TheTakeOvah.com.
Johnson is a journalist, digital producer and event curator with an unwavering love for Hip Hop and R&B. Marrying her desire to write and her addiction to the radio, she’s used her knowledge of both mediums to contribute to Source Unsigned Hype, The Wendy Williams Show and The Combat Jack Show interviewing stars such as Nick Cannon, Kevin Hart and Ibrahim Hamad.
With the genre of Hip Hop constantly evolving in addition to the rapidly growing tech industry- Robin found excitement in discovering new talent online. Dating back to Myspace’s infancy- she was known for curating a “Top 8” that featured only her favorite new talents and used her online persona to help those artists spread their music amongst her peers.
Though far removed from MySpace, Johnson still maintained an affinity for finding new music and channeled that passion into the development of her aforementioned site TheTakeOvah.com; Created to give indie artists a free, non competitive platform to get quality press, The TakeOvah is growing to be the “hot spot” for new music- as Robin has a rapidly growing track record of finding artists before they make it to mainstream airwaves (artists include Kehlani, Dave East, Phony Ppl & Ari Lennox).
Commonly cited as being forward thinking, Robin has committed herself to providing consistent, quality content that supports the next generation of entertainers.
