Crash Footage: How I Got Hurt on the Bunny Hill
Video: Crash footage from Squaw Valley 5/21/19. | SwansonFineArts May 21, 2019 there was 3-5″ of fresh powder and the mountain felt like winter. The upper mountain at Squaw Valley received several storms and the powder skiing was incredible. Related: Winter Storm in May More Snow in May than in April With all the new snow, I forgot to be more careful at lower elevations near the base for hidden obstacles and left the groomed path to try to ski to the parking lot.
70 Days At Squaw-Alpine, CA with Ikon Pass
The IkonPass was my first multi-resort pass and I used it primarily at Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows in Northern California. While the resorts are now owned by the same parent company and are working on plans to connect the two by gondola, my experience was different at the two resorts which complemented rather than copied each other to create a more robust skiing experience. At Squaw Valley you can expect big reactions from people on the chairs.
Last Friday I Saw a Kid Ski Into a Lift Tower at Squaw Valley, CA
Artist’s depiction of the accident by Rochelle Swanson. Until Friday I had never enjoyed hearing the sound of a child screaming. But after a terrible accident, the shrill shrieking of a child’s voice let me know that he was alive. He was breathing. He was conscious. But he still needed ski patrol. The onlookers from the chair felt helpless. What do you do when someone is hurt below you?

Squaw Valley, CA Report: Memorial Day Was One of the Best Days of the Year
Video: Memorial Day 2019 at Squaw Valley. | SwansonFineArts May 27, 2019 brought low clouds with limited visibility that cleared up by mid-day. It was my first day back on snow since I injured my wrist (sorry Mom) so breaks were frequent and photos abundant. The snow was perfect until it became grabby around one o’clock. Light, fluffy, and easy to turn until the sun burned through the clouds. It was one of our best ski days this year and a great kickoff to the new late-season schedule.
Taking care of tomorrow today
We have spent the past four years together on the City Council working to keep Davis livable, workable, enjoyable and perhaps most importantly, fiscally resilient. As we reflect on the past four years and look forward to quieter Tuesday evenings, we would be remiss if we did not broach the oft-talked about subject of public-employee compensation and the City Council’s lengthy and continued efforts in that arena. The city is, first and foremost, a service-driven organization.
