What was your first job as a journalist?
I first worked as a local news radio reporter, in the times of cassette tape recorders and NAB cartridges! (we later switched to MiniDisc).
Have you ever used a typewriter?
Yes, about 15 years ago. Sometimes I miss the inherent calm and deeper thinking of writing on a keyboard but without staring at a screen.
Who's your favorite fictional journalist?
Tintin. Although... did he ever write any articles or visit any newsroom at all?
What does it mean to be a journalist?
To be curious about what's happening. To explain why it matters. To have the courage and dedication to find out more.
What tools and software do you use to do your job?
A good pair of shoes and camera gear. To edit, mostly Photo Mechanic, Adobe Lightroom and Final Cut Pro X.
What's your favorite social network?
Facebook to share updates about my work and links related to photography. Twitter to know what's happening and chit chat.
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
My first photo essay, about life in an informal settlement outside Buenos Aires, Argentina.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Ask yourself what your beat/specialty will be. Learn negotiation skills. Learn business and marketing.
