Adolescent Peers' Diagnoses and Genetic Predispositions and Subsequent Risk of Mental Disorders
Key Points Question Is exposure to peers’ diagnosed mental disorders and peers’ genetic predispositions associated with adolescents’ subsequent risk of developing mental disorders? Findings In this nationwide cohort study of more than 600 000 Finnish adolescents, both peers’ genetic predispositions—inferred from relatives’ diagnoses—and peers’ own mental disorder diagnoses were associated with adolescents’ subsequent diagnosis of mental disorders.
Systematic mapping of rare genetic disease studies using UK primary care electronic health records
Abstract Rare disease studies often rely on small, selected cohorts, are resource-intensive and difficult to scale. UK primary care electronic health record (EHR) databases provide population-based, longitudinal data, but their use for rare genetic disease research has not been systematically examined.

I found Reality on a Tropical Island in the Andaman Sea!
It’s recent enough to remember the chaos of my life before…. Always hustling. My brain was on high alert 86,400 seconds a day… my mind racing, looking for the next way to get ahead. Cell phone due tomorrow… The fridge is getting low… The gas light just went on in the car, in unison with the check engine light…. Shit. Internet didn’t get paid… Insurance is late…. How many more shifts before rent is due? TV wasn’t an escape.
Changing Neighborhood Income Deprivation Over Time, Moving in Childhood, and Adult Risk of Depression
Key Points Question Are certain neighborhood deprivation trajectories and moving during childhood associated with depression in adulthood? Findings This cohort study found that individuals who lived in neighborhoods during childhood that were more income deprived were more likely to develop depression in adulthood.
Transmission of Mental Disorders in Adolescent Peer Networks
Key Points Question Is having peers with a mental disorder in the same social network during adolescence associated with later risk of mental disorder? Findings In this cohort study including more than 700 000 individuals in Finland, analysis of nationwide, interlinked registry data found that having classmates diagnosed with a mental disorder in the ninth grade of comprehensive school was associated with increased risk of receiving a mental disorder diagnosis later in life.
Non‐fatal overdose risk associated with prescribing opioid agonists concurrently with other medication: Cohort study conducted using linked primary care, secondary care and mortality records
INTRODUCTION Long-term opioid use has been associated with elevated non-fatal and fatal overdose risks. Comorbidity and polypharmacy may elevate overdose risk among patients who inject drugs [1]. In England and Wales, almost 81% of deaths that involved benzodiazepines, gabapentinoids (gabapentin, pregabalin) and Z-drugs (zopiclone, zaleplon, zolpidem) also involved opioids.

The prevalence of severe personality disorder in perpetrators of homicide
Abstract Background Current UK evidence on the prevalence of personality disorder in homicide is lacking. The aims were to estimate the prevalence of personality disorder in homicide perpetrators from court reports and carry out a dimensional assessment in keeping with the new ICD‐11 classification of the prevalence of severe personality disorder. Associations between severe personality disorder and sociodemographic, historical and offence‐related characteristics were then explored.

Developmental language disorders and risk of recidivism among young offenders
Abstract Background Although factors such as adverse family background have been widely examined, little is known about the prevalence or potential impact of developmental language disorder (DLD) on risk of recidivism in young people with history of criminal justice system contact. Methods A total of 145 young offenders participated. An adversity score was constructed based on information found in youth justice service records.
Suicide in recently released prisoners: a population-based cohort study
Summary Background Several studies have been undertaken on suicide in custody, but few on suicide after the release from prison. We undertook a population-based cohort study to investigate suicide rates in recently released prisoners in England and Wales.
Strong evidence indicating the effectiveness of opioid agonist treatment
We read with interest the study by Natasa Gisev and colleagues, 1 Gisev N Bharat C Larney S The effect of entry and retention in opioid agonist treatment on contact with the criminal justice system among opioid-dependent people: a retrospective cohort study. which provides further robust evidence for the effectiveness of opioid agonist treatment (OAT) in ameliorating the harm associated with opiate users' criminal offending.

Montana's digital divide: Rural communities deserve broadband access
The people lucky enough to live in Montana’s rural communities know that a few sacrifices come with the territory. But that’s not to say that rural Montanans should be expected to miss out on certain opportunities just because they’ve chosen not to live in an urban center.Access to education and health care, for instance, are essential services that all Montanans deserve equally. But today there is a rural-urban gap growing, and if it’s not addressed, rural Montanans are going to be left behind.
Disparities in mortality among 25-44-year-olds in England: a longitudinal, population-based study
Sharp relative rises in deaths from cardiovascular reasons, alcohol misuse and drug misuse in the north compared with the south seem to have created new health divisions between England's regions. This gap might be due to exacerbation of existing social and health inequalities that have been experienced for many years. These divisions might suggest increasing psychological distress, despair, and risk taking among young and middle-aged adults, particularly outside of London.
Self-harm in a primary care cohort of older people: incidence, clinical management, and risk of suicide and other causes of death
Within primary care, we have identified a group of older adults at high risk from unnatural death, particularly within the first year of self-harm. We have highlighted a high frequency of prescription of TCAs, known to be potentially fatally toxic in overdose. We emphasise the need for early intervention, careful alternative prescribing, and increased support when older adults consult after an episode of self-harm and with other health conditions.
Neoliberal welfare reform and single parents' mental health
Over recent decades, national welfare programmes of Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development member countries have become increasingly focused on achieving high employment levels among single parents and other social groups receiving income support.1x1Whitworth, A and Griggs, J. More or less likely to offend? Young adults with a history of identified developmental language disorders
There is now substantial literature demonstrating that a disproportionate number of young people who come into contact with youth justice services evidence unidentified language difficulties. These young people, therefore, have received little or no professional input in this area. Conversely, there is a dearth of research pertaining to criminality outcomes among those individuals with identified developmental language disorders (DLD) who have received such interventions.

Investigating the relationship between quality of primary care and premature mortality in England: a spatial whole-population study
The Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF) was introduced in 2004 across all family practices in the UK to reward high quality primary care, and over £10bn has since been invested in the programme. Although the incentive scheme does not fully capture quality in primary care, it does cover many important aspects, especially within its clinical domain.
Incidence, clinical management, and mortality risk following self harm among children and adolescents: cohort study in primary care
Results The annual incidence of self harm was observed to increase in girls (37.4 per 10 000) compared with boys (12.3 per 10 000), and a sharp 68% increase occurred among girls aged 13-16, from 45.9 per 10 000 in 2011 to 77.0 per 10 000 in 2014. Referrals within 12 months of the index self harm episode were 23% less likely for young patients registered at the most socially deprived practices, even though incidences were considerably higher in these localities.
Self-harm and violent criminality among young people who experienced trauma-related hospital admission during childhood: a Danish national cohort study - The Lancet Public Health
Incidence rates and cumulative incidence values for self-harm and violent offending were significantly raised among youths and young adults who experienced a trauma-related hospital admission at least once during their childhood. Confounding by parental SES explained very little of these increased risks.

Parental Psychiatric Disease and Risks of Attempted Suicide and Violent Criminal Offending in Offspring: A Population-Based Cohort Study
Importance Self-directed and interpersonal violence share some common risk factors such as a parental history of mental illness. However, relationships between the full spectrum of parental psychiatric disease and these 2 related outcomes are unclear. Objective To examine associations between the full spectrum of parental psychiatric disease and risks of attempted suicide and violent offending among offspring.
Guest opinion: Technology upgrade needed to protect Montana kids
It is widely recognized that we have a child safety crisis in the state of Montana. Since 2008, there has been a 60 percent increase in child abuse and neglect cases. Drugs, untreated mental illness, and domestic violence have all been cited as contributors to this alarming trend. Montana will never be able to address these tragedies, however, without ensuring that child welfare caseworkers have the tools necessary to do their difficult jobs.

States must take control of country's direction
The Constitution of these United States has long stood the test of time, serving for over 200 years as the foundation of the rule of law of our county. Since this document was ratified in 1789, the Constitution has only been amended 27 times, proving that the framework installed by our founding fathers can endure the test of time like no other republic in history.
Excess deaths from COVID-19 and other causes by region, neighbourhood deprivation level and place of death during the first 30 weeks of the pandemic in England and Wales: A retrospective registry study
Abstract Background: Excess deaths during the COVID-19 pandemic compared with those expected from historical trends have been unequally distributed, both geographically and socioeconomically. Not all excess deaths have been directly related to COVID-19 infection. We investigated geographical and socioeconomic patterns in excess deaths for major groups of underlying causes during the pandemic.
EPA regs come with hefty price tag for MT households
What would an additional $500 in energy expenses do to your household’s annual budget? Cause you to miss a car payment? Is it a month’s rent or mortgage? The amount of a few little “luxuries” like cable TV or a tablet computer for your kids? For most Montanans it’s not a trivial amount. But $500 is how much the average Montanan will have to come up with to pay for President Obama’s plan to dismantle and reassemble our nation’s energy system.
