Roger Kasendorf, DO’s Biography

Roger Kasendorf, DO, is a board-certified osteopathic physician and physiatrist specializing in physical medicine, rehabilitation, and pain management. He practices in the San Diego area and works with patients experiencing musculoskeletal conditions, acute injuries, and chronic pain. Beyond patient care, he teaches at three osteopathic medical schools, serves as an examiner for his specialty boards, and provides independent medical examinations and expert witness services. His approach focuses on understanding which physical abilities a patient has lost and developing care to improve those functions.

Dr. Kasendorf received a Bachelor of Science in Nutritional Science from the University of Maryland, College Park, in 1999. In 2003, he earned his Doctor of Osteopathy degree from the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine. He then completed a traditional rotating internship at North Shore University Hospital at Plainview and a residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at Nassau University Medical Center. He served as Chief Resident from 2006 to 2007. He is board-certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation and pain management and is licensed in California, Nevada, Texas, Wyoming, and Alaska.

Dr. Kasendorf's career in clinical practice has included work on both coasts. From 2009 through 2015, he operated his own practice in Long Beach, New York, and La Jolla, California. He also worked as a physiatrist and Director of Sports Medicine at Coastal Pain and Spinal Diagnostics. He has maintained an affiliation with Scripps Memorial Hospital since 2014 and, since January 2026, has practiced with Ortho 1 Medical Group.

Dr. Kasendorf's areas of care include osteopathic manipulation, acute and chronic pain management, arthritis and rheumatological conditions, cancer pain management, regenerative medicine, and rehabilitation. His procedures include trigger point, joint, spinal, facet, and hyaluronic acid injections. He uses Botox for migraines and muscle spasticity and performs diagnostic evaluations with EMG and musculoskeletal ultrasound. His treatment approach considers the relationships among muscles, tendons, ligaments, joints, bones, nerves, and the brain while working toward improved function.

Since 2016, Dr. Kasendorf has maintained a legal consulting practice that includes independent medical evaluations, case merit reviews, medical record reviews, expert reports, depositions, and trial testimony. His broader professional experience includes academic appointments, CME lectures, published clinical work, specialty board service, and medical board review. He was named a La Jolla Top Doctor in 2020, 2021, and 2022, recognized as a California Top Osteopathic Physician in September 2020, listed by Continental Who's Who in 2020, and named Best Osteopath at the 2021 GHP Healthcare and Pharmaceutical Awards.

Roger Kasendorf, DO, continues to combine clinical practice, medical education, professional board responsibilities, and medicolegal consulting while keeping functional improvement at the center of his work.
