What was your first job as a journalist?
Working in the Middle East as an Associated Press photographer.
Have you ever used a typewriter?
Yes, many times.
What's your favorite social network?
I don't usually participate in social networking, although I maintain a Facebook and LinkedIn presence.
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
A 16 year--old son of a former student was arrested in Texas for a murder he did not commit. Resulting story in several newspapers.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
You have to really enjoy asking questions, be curious about all aspects of people's lives, and of life itself., and be a great listener.
When's the best time to pitch you?
Anytime via email.
What's the best pitch you ever got?
An offer to travel as an embedded journalist with the U.S. Army in Kosovo. I could not resist the opportunity to do something so different.
What's the worst pitch you ever got?
I have no idea, do not remember any very bad pitches.
What's your favorite drink?
Coconut water.
When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?
Biking or tennis, or on the road somewhere. .
