The Future of Construction Innovation
No one disagrees that construction lags in innovation and that everything from restrictive building codes to exaggerated perceptions of risk hold it back. Now two decades old, the Charles Pankow Foundation seeks to break the industry out of its self-limiting shell and spur development of non-proprietary technology to improve building design and construction. A novel new structural steel system called SpeedCore is an example of its results.
How a Patent Hinders Construction and Engineering Innovation
No one disagrees that construction lags in innovation and that everything from restrictive building codes to exaggerated perceptions of risk hold us back. Now two decades old, the Charles Pankow Foundation (CPF) seeks to break construction out of its self-limiting shell and spur development of non-proprietary technology to improve building design and construction. A novel new structural steel system called SpeedCore is an example of the results CPF’s efforts produce.
Seismic design parameters (R, Cd, and Ω0) for uncoupled composite plate shear walls−concrete filled (C‐PSW/CF)
1 INTRODUCTION Composite Plate Shear Walls—Concrete Filled (C-PSW/CF) are structural wall elements recently adapted for use in building construction. These walls have emerged as a viable option because of their efficiency and effectiveness as a seismic force-resisting system as recently established in many research studies. The walls consist of two parallel steel faceplates and infill concrete. Composite action is ensured through tie bars connecting the steel plates and steel headed stud anchors.
Cyclic Lateral Loading Behavior of Composite Plate Shear Walls/Concrete Filled
Downloaded 0 times Technical Papers Abstract Planar composite plate shear walls/concrete filled (C-PSW/CF) consist of two steel web plates and two flange (or closure) plates making up a long hollow box section that is filled with concrete. The web plates are connected to each other using regularly spaced steel tie bars. Steel headed stud anchors (shear studs) may be added to reduce the steel plate slenderness for local buckling considerations in the composite phase.
Rainier Square uses game-changing system to finish nearly a year ahead of schedule
Subscriber content preview December 17, 2020 Rainier Square uses game-changing system to finish nearly a year ahead of schedule SpeedCore is a composite steel and concrete wall system that is prefabricated off site so it can be quickly erected on site. By RON KLEMENCIC MKA Sky-Pix photo from Wright Runstad & Co. [enlarge] At 58 stories, Rainier Square Tower is Seattle’s second tallest building. Its structure was finished in just 10 months using the SpeedCore system.
