Windows 11: What is this toolbar, and how do I make it stop?
Background: ever since a forced upgrade to Windows 11, every time I'm working with numbers (e.g. in Excel), every few keystrokes, the screen dims and this toolbar appears on the centre top, and screws up the number editing.I'm sure I'm probably just fat-fingering a control key, and I'm really trying not to but it keeps happening. I find it infuriating. This never happened in Windows 10 before the upgrade. How do I prevent this from happening?
Why does it take so long to copy files in Windows 11?
You are using an out of date browser. It may not display this or other websites correctly. You should upgrade or use an alternative browser. #1 Ever since I "upgraded" my Windows 10 to Windows 11, it seems like it takes an age to copy large-ish files across my personal network via the GUI Much of the time, the copying appears to completely stall two or three times, only to finish up in a burst or two or three, but it takes way longer than a simple command-line xcopy. What is it doing?

All Hail Taylor Swift, Person of the Year!
#2 God I can't wait to here about how many people don't care about this. #3 Shake it off, worse choices were possible. #4 God I can't wait to here about how many people don't care about this. Allow me to be the first. #5 Shake it off, worse choices were possible. I have no problem with Taylor being chosen as Person of the Year. I think it's a case of not just worst choices were possible, there isn't a better one.
James Randi dead at 92.

The greatest teacher I ever had #6 Along with Sagan he made a difference to how I think. #7 #8 #10 Along with Sagan he made a difference to how I think. Pretty much this.
Avoiding Win 11 and staying with 10
Windows versoin changes annoy me as they do stupid random things, at least from my POV. For example in Win 11 the small right-click context menu with most of the things I want now moved (e.g. rename) or moved to "more options". Sure I can fix it with WinAero or regedit but it's the to me whimsical way they change. More obscure - at some point the IsWindowVisible() method would tell you if a window was visible.
Moral panic over 'reborn dolls'.
#1 The newest moral panic for the right-wing in Brazil: life-like dolls. About 30 bills concerning these figurines, known as ‘reborn’ dolls, have been introduced across the country www.theguardian.com #2 They're creepy but I can see them being useful for films and television, spare a real baby from having to be a prop. Please don't let anybody decide they're the perfect vessels for AI though.
Transwomen are not Women - Part 15
d4m10n Penultimate Amazing #1 If there is a document (driver's license or ID card for non-drivers) that is used as identification with objective characteristics (sex, DOB, hair color, etc.), then other documents or objects, like the license plate, can be individually customized without harming the objective identification function of the license/ID card.

Sweden v Ireland - A free shot, or potential upset?
Can the Republic of Ireland dare to dream against a formidable Swedish outfit, or can Vera Pauw's side consider the seemingly mammoth task something of a shot to nothing in Gothenburg? The challenge facing the visitors on Tuesday (live on RTÉ2, kick-off 5.30pm) is a considerable one. The side ranked second in the world. With six wins from six in Group A, they hold an 11-point lead over Ireland and Finland, though the Girls in Green have a game in hand on the Finns.
Steelers QB Dwayne Haskins dies after being hit by car
To an Athlete Dying Young BY A. E. HOUSMAN The time you won your town the race We chaired you through the market-place; Man and boy stood cheering by, And home we brought you shoulder-high. Today, the road all runners come, Shoulder-high we bring you home, And set you at your threshold down, Townsman of a stiller town. Smart lad, to slip betimes away From fields where glory does not stay, And early though the laurel grows It withers quicker than the rose.
Chrlsea - Liverpool on now
Response to bluecollar2 (Original post) Sun Jan 2, 2022, 03:08 PM 4. Manchester City the big winner this weekend, sadly After squeaking by Arsenal yesterday and today's draw, I can't see anybody overtaking them. Shame, just a few weeks ago we were talking about a 3-way title race. Reply to this post Back to top Alert abuse Link here Permalink

On December 30, 1953, Admiral introduced the first home color television set for $1,175.00
Response to bucolic_frolic (Reply #1) Sat Jan 1, 2022, 10:11 PM 17. 1974 my Dad got a color TV for the first time - a big console, don't know the brand He loved it so much he gave each of his four daughters a 19" RCA color TV. I was the first one in my social group to have a color TV so every one would come over to watch shows. Back then at night I could get TNT from Atlanta (here in Tallahassee) if the conditions were right. That meant at night when the Comcast cable system was turned off.
