Housing Wealth and Consumption: The Role of Heterogeneous Credit Constraints
1 Introduction The US economy experienced a large financial crisis together with a large nationwide decline in house prices in 2007–2008. A deep recession with significant declines in consumption, investment, and employment followed. The house price declines across the country showed a large degree of variation: Across US counties the change in house prices between 2006 and 2009 ranged from a decline of around 20% to a slight increase.

Supersedes Working Paper 19-53/R –Owner-Occupancy Fraud and Mortage Performance We identify occupancy fraud — borrowers who misrepresent their occupancy status as owner-occupants rather than investors — in residential mortgage originations. Unlike previous work, we show that fraud was prevalent in originations not just during the housing bubble, but also persists through more recent times.
Banking Trends: Who Benefits When Banks Must Share Your Data?
In October 2025, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau proposed a landmark rule governing consumer financial data rights in the United States.
