Rory Schmier’s Biography

Rory Schmier is a 56-year-old construction professional and ranch manager based in Arboles, Colorado. Born in Durango, he spent his early years moving throughout Colorado with his family. He attended school through fifth grade in Pagosa Springs before relocating to Monte Vista, where he finished high school. These experiences helped shape his work ethic and gave him a strong understanding of rural communities across the state.

After completing school, Rory worked as a farmhand for six years with a local family operation. During that time, he gained practical experience in land management, farm equipment, and seasonal cycles. Wanting to explore more, he moved to Las Vegas and spent a year working as a mason, where he learned construction techniques that became useful later in his career.

Returning to Colorado, Rory co-owned a liquor store in Alamosa for five years. This experience taught him about small business operations, customer service, and inventory control. He later transitioned into custom home building and remodeling, which became his primary focus for over twenty years. Running his own company, he specialized in high-end construction projects, developing skills in all phases of the building process. He earned a strong reputation for hands-on management and quality work.

In 2012, Rory took on a new role as a ranch manager near Durango, overseeing a 300-acre hay operation. His responsibilities include managing planting, irrigation, harvesting, equipment, and property maintenance. He also handles rental property oversight and hay sales throughout the region.

Outside of work, Rory enjoys riding motorcycles, boating, water skiing, hunting, and camping. These activities reflect his deep connection to the outdoors. He also volunteers by providing handyperson services to elderly residents, using his skills to support others in his community.

Rory Schmier now resides in the Durango area full-time, near family and the landscapes where his journey began. His experience in construction, agriculture, and community work continues to support the people and places around him.
