Breaking Up with My Dissertation
In the beginning it was fun. We got to know each other and discussed where this relationship could go. Together, we explored common interests and bounced off each other’s ideas. We loved to spend lazy Sundays in bed reading secondary literature. I guess you could call this our honeymoon phase. Things started to change when you demanded more, though. December was supposed to be a time for family and Christmas markets, instead you wanted a proposal.
Exploring Creative Careers with Alice Mullen and Megan Robson at the Poetry Book Society

The republican/conservative make-up trend: the connection between beauty and the political division
TikTok creator and the 'liberal Regina George', Suzanne Lambert, recently posted a satirical tutorial applying ‘republican’ make up which sparked a trend amongst liberal creators to do the same across social media. Now thousands of women are applying mismatched, cakey foundation, clumpy mascara, thick un-winged eyeliner, unblended contour and concealer lips (shudders).
Finding yourself whilst travelling: is it a myth?
Sign up to our mailing list so you never miss any future updates Image Credits: Pixabay, ZairaGamidova Whilst I think you can find yourself along the adventure, I firmly believe that the experience is what you make of it. If you take the opportunity to go travelling then that is great start, but if you fail to go outside your comfort zone, make new connections and embrace cultures whilst you’re out there, then how can you possibly grow or gain an organic, full experience?
Day in the Uni Life: History and Politics Student
My first lecture was on the Irish Revolution from 1879-1923 with the engaging Dr Fergus Campbell. It is a research-led module, which means students are working with lecturers in their chosen field to understand the period. This week, Dr Campbell discussed Home Rule and radical newspapers in Ireland during the early twentieth century, although I must admit, an hour is not enough time.

Methanol spiking in Laos: How to stay safe when drinking whilst travelling.
Before considering how we, as travellers, can stay safe when dipping in and out of different cultures, I feel we need to take a moment to remember the victims: Holly Bowles (19), Bianca Jones (19), Anne-Sofie Orkild Coyman (20), Freja Vennervald Sorensen (21), Simone White (28) and James Louis Hutson (57). White’s mother, Sue, reported her devastation to The Sunday Times and warned travellers, “Please be careful when it comes to drinks. Simone was a university-educated, highly intelligent person.

Navigating Friendships with Different Political Views

They explained they avoided getting emotional over issues and separated views easily for the sake of their friendship. I’ll be honest, this felt a little tone-deaf to me and didn't help me much with a resolution.

Sign up to our mailing list so you never miss any future updates Violence against women in Britain has been declared a national emergency, but female citizens have been aware of this reality for some time. Charities like Women’s Aid are essential in helping women escape dangerous, life-threatening situations. After increasingly worrying events over summer, I thought it would be best to channel my frustration and upset into something positive.

How will my personal relationships change with my move to university?
Sign up to our mailing list so you never miss any future updates Image credit: Courtney Cook, Unsplash You may notice that family dynamics change. Or that you are struggling to stay in touch with friends from home. It is normal for relationships to require an adjustment period once you go to university. Personally, I have found that some things change, and others stay the same. In the first couple of weeks of moving to university, it is normal for some students to ring their family daily.
Balancing relationships with assignment season
Be realistic. You can’t fit it all in over the next few weeks, so you need to realistically prioritise what is most important with the time you have left. Can you really concentrate when studying with your partner or friend? You may find it difficult to not see your favourite person every day of the week, but the dedication to your studies could be the difference between a 2.1 and a 2.2 in that final! Plan in advance. This season does not mean you lock yourself away completely.

It’s for the left to stand up and be counted in the fight for a People’s Vote
A second referendum activist on why the Left should fight for another vote “A week is a long time in politics.” So said Harold Wilson, Labour’s most electorally successful leader, who won four out of five General Election campaigns. In the last seven days, we’ve seen the creation of the Independent Group, the government showing public willingness to delay Brexit, and most importantly, Labour finally coming out in support of a People’s Vote.
A People’s Vote is a fight for disability rights
The EU has been massively influential in the development of the rights of disabled people in the UK. This barely gets addressed in the Brexit debate.
