Best Swiss Dress Watch Under $500
Hamilton and Tissot have some nice Swiss automatic dress watches around the $500. New options are somewhat limited. Vintage / used can also get you all sorts of Swiss dress watches for $500, and imo often classier than new. But you gotta know what you're doing (it's a minefield) and also need to think about servicing costs. If I had $500 and wanted a Swiss dress watch, and wasn't a fan of the few new offerings, I'd learn the ins and outs of buying vintage and do that.

Citizen NB1050-59a with JDM Hand Mod
$450.00 Check price Puyallup, Washington Citizen NB1050-59a Mod For sale is a very special Citizen NB1050-59a. This mod has swapped out the stick hands for a pair of lumed dauphine hands. These hands are from a now very hard-to-find J=DM-only Citizen, the NP4040, and the lume matches the indices perfectly (check out the photo). The hands cost me about $150 to source, and so far as I know are now unobtainium.
NTH Näcken Modern Blue No Date Custom Mod Build
$325.00 Edgewood, Washington This is a very special, one-of-a-kind mod project. It was built by my watchmaker, Rick Hoover of CurrentTime Watchworks. All parts including movement were purchased directly from NTH owner Chris Vail. (As a custom mod build, no warranty is provided by NTH.) I’m really pleased with how this one turned out. I used the lighter “true” blue dial and hands from the Nacken Modern blue v2, and I added a red second hand from the Nacken Frost for a splash of color.
Overthinking a simple purchase - which Timex to buy
I prefer the sans-serif font of the two Expeditions — looks snappier, I think. I have one similar to the blue one, but I think I prefer the cream-colored 3rd one you show. Like you, I prefer simple dial designs, but the Easy Reader is almost too simple, if that's possible. I had an Easy Reader, but gave it away to Goodwill — it was just too basic for my tastes, and it felt cheap on my wrist. Plus it reminded me of school clocks.
'Dressy' dial color preference
Night has a good point regarding silver that I had not thought of before. That color is quite classy. My only concern is the silver dial and (usually) silver hands would have less contrast...making the watch harder to read for my aging eyes. My thoughts on white come from my witnessing an Omega AT 2503.33 with the white dial and blue hands. A strikingly beautiful combo in a sports piece. I suppose black (or dark blue) with white hands are the ultimate in legibility.

White dial with black-outlined, applied indices?
#1 · I absolutely love this look; it really adds to the pop and legibility of a watch; but it's not as common as one might think it would be in the affordable space. NTH Amphion Commando Vintage Mod - $450
Up for sale is a NTH Amphion Commando that has been heavily modified to create a more vintage-inspired watch. The case has been swapped out for a NTH v2 sub case. The bezel insert has been changed to the Barracuda Polar stainless steel insert. The bracelet has been upgraded with a v2 clasp for more microadjustments. The watches in the rotation are all IWC's. I'm not "in" to clothes anymore. I'm still in my sleepwear, waiting for my work day to end at 15:30. Then I can work out, shower, and slip into some Wrangler shorts and a t-shirt from Kohl's that probably has some vintage rock band graphic on it. At my snobbiest (some 20 years ago), I wore Luigi Borrelli button downs during the colder months, and RL Purple Label polos in warmer weather. With a Patek Philippe or a Rolex, natch.
20mm Hirsch/KRST/Gekota brown leather straps
1. Hirsch tan leather, 20mm tapers to 18mm; this was sold to me as a Merino, but it feels a little sturdier. In any case it's an absolutely lovely strap. MSRP $60, asking $30 2. NTH Bezel Inserts - Nacken, Polar/Vintage Barracuda, blue ceramic
Hi all, FS are four inserts. Three are NTH PVD steel bezel inserts, and the fourth is a blue ceramic insert that fits the NTH bezel. All were removed from NTH watches and may have some residue on the back of the insert (which can be easily cleaned/removed). Asking just $30/ea, which is $25 less than on the NTH site. Sternglas Naos Quartz White (Bauhaus)
Need to thin the collection again and get some space back! For sale is a really nice grab-n-go bauhaus-style watch, the Sternglas Naos in white. It's a classic bauhaus inspired look with a Swiss Rhonda quartz movement inside. Looks are stellar, super clean with the no-second-hand. Specs on the Sternglas website, but it's very slim, slides right under a shirt cuff, and is a perfect 38mm in case diameter. Retails for $269, asking just $99 shipped. Frederique Constant Classics Index - white dial
For sale is my Frederique Constant Classics Index automatic.This watch is absolutely gorgeous. It’s hard to see, but the white dial has an eggshell texture finish that looks amazing on the wrist.This was a watch I did wear to the office, so there are some signs of wear, hairlines, swirlies, on the polished surfaces.

Hey all, So here’s my dilemma: so many beautiful dive watches have bezels that do not match the dial. I’m looking for a dive watch that matches the bezel and insert colors. To be honest, the Black Bay 58 blue is what I want. But I’m never gonna spend that much. Here’s what I’m looking for: 1. Color: matching blue bezel and insert. Navy or deep blue dial and bezel; nothing light. 2. Dial: Matte preferred, definitely no sunburst.
