Where are women in Australia’s new AI policy? This was one of the first questions we asked on the prime minister’s announcement of the new Office of AI, now being established within the federal government. The need for a “gender lens”, to carefully consider how AI is impacting men and women in different ways, is paramount for several reasons. Firstly, the impacts of AI are not gender-neutral. Already we can see gender patterns in which types of AI are likely to be automated and replaced.
