On Dec. 6, 1989, a gunman walked into a classroom at the École Polytechnique in Montreal carrying a semi-automatic rifle. After ranting for a few minutes about “feminists” in front of the bewildered students, he started shooting. When his rampage was over, 13 students and one school administrator, all women, were dead, and 14 others were injured.
In the years following the massacre, survivors and family members formed the collective PolySeSouvient (Poly Remembers) to advocate for stricter gun control legislation. Since 2017, they have frequently been joined by survivors of the shooting at the Centre culturel islamique de Québec, which claimed six lives on Jan. 29, 2017....
