Fury-Norton: The Trilogy
Fury to me is one of those opponents that would very much favor Norton's style imo. I don't think anything the Brit could bring would daunt Ken's coming forward, just think the only person Fury has fought that hit as hard as Norton was Wilder (Wlad was very diminished in that dept by the time Fury fought him imo). I think upon their first meeting Fury would be flummoxed by Ken's weirdness, whilst absorbing godawful punishment to his body (practically from the beginning).

Name some fighters that Prime Mike Tyson beats, but Prime Holyfield struggles with or loses to
djanders said: ↑ Larry Holmes. Click to expand... 30 year old Holmes stops '88 Tyson in 9, while prime Holyfield loses at least a UD to the same Larry. The difference is that Holmes would be able to read Mike's one-dimensional (though, against the right opponents, devastating) style fairly early on. Holyfield was capable of changing up or at least backing off and on his typical style, That's something Mike only tried to less success.
George Foreman Circa 1973 V Mike Tyson Circa 1990
Vegan Beast said: ↑ What makes you think this? Foreman was KO'd by Ali, he could be KO'd by Tyson, and he will get caught. Foreman didn't have a great defence, so unless you think he could take Tysons bombs, then I'd say Foreman gets KO'd. 1990's Tyson may struggle, but based on your comment you think any version of Tyson would lose. I disagree. Click to expand... Tyson didn't have the ring IQ of Ali, nor the resiliency and adaptibility. I respectfully ask that you change my mind on that.

Taking Joe at around the same age as Holyfield, what's the end result with Foreman and Holmes? I am 100% sure Foreman could go the distance, his face would probably look how it did against Schulz. Holmes could POSSIBLY decision Louis, might look like Holmes vs Holyfield. I think Louis would stop Foreman, I'm not sure about Holmes.

Could Larry Holmes Have Challenged Ali in Around 1976?
Boxing News 24 Forum Forums > Boxing > Classic Boxing Forum > Discussion in 'Classic Boxing Forum' started by Fergy, Feb 22, 2022 at 7:34 AM. So, what I'm asking is, could Holmes have challenged Ali, maybe 1976, and it being a competetive match? Perhaps at that point in time, Larry loses but I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be one sided. Holmes beats Ali in 76' via a pretty dull decision, Ali was already past his 70s prime by quite a lot by then, Fergy and RulesMakeItInteresting like this.

Do you think we'll ever see an under 6 ft HW as dominant as Tyson was again?
Boxing News 24 Forum Forums > Boxing > World Boxing Forum > Discussion in 'World Boxing Forum' started by MixedMartialLaw, Feb 18, 2022 at 5:27 PM. Tyson was short for his own era and would be even shorter for today's but he was also an overall physical freak of nature outlier despite his height. Are there any under 6' HW fighters out there or in the near future who could become dominant champs? I don't know.
Who in your opinion is the greatest boxer in the history of boxing?
Ok so when I saw the thread title 3 names immediately came to mind…. I know you said one but for me each guy could lay claim…. In no particular order Pep, SRR and Greb came to mind. Pep’s record, his boxing skills , and defensive mastery were incredible SRR had two fisted power, steel chin,an amazing skill set, and at one time was 128-1. Won titles in more then one weight class. Greb beat more hall of famers then anyone, went 45-0 in one year, and fought in numerous weight classes.
Holmes vs Lewis
Boxing News 24 Forum Forums > Boxing > Classic Boxing Forum > Discussion in 'Classic Boxing Forum' started by grantsorenson, Feb 13, 2022 at 11:55 AM. I've been watching a lot of Holmes lately and I have to say that I don't see Lewis winning this fight at all. Lewis is going to have to be on the front foot trying to get his jab going because Holmes would just be winning the battle of the jabs at range and taking the backfoot.
Tyson Fury will soon surpass Lennox Lewis
It's been a joy following Fury's career. From plucky underdog who was widely viewed as a joke, working his ass off to get a shot at Klitschko, and not even getting the recognition he deserved when he pulled off the upset and schooled Wlad... ...to WBC champ, doing massive PPVs in the US, top dog in the division, the only man ever to win every single one of the WBA/WBC/IBF/WBO/Ring heavyweight titles, a household name, and getting paid big bucks.
What was George Foreman's public image when he won the HW championship in 1973?
Boxing News 24 Forum Forums > Boxing > Classic Boxing Forum > Discussion in 'Classic Boxing Forum' started by Big Ukrainian, Jan 17, 2022 at 3:53 PM. He seemed like undestructable force inside the ring, with the record of 40-0 (37 KOs) after destroying elite HWs Fraizer and Norton in less than 2 rounds both times. What was George's public image outside the ring at that time? Was he as press-friendly as in the 2nd part of his career? Was he loved by boxing fans and casuals?

mark ant said: ↑ No Holy went toe to toe and rarely used the jab, Douglas was mainly on the inside too. Click to expand... I wasn't just on about Holyfield and Douglas, i was on about all of Tyson's losses or opponents who gave him issue. For example James Tillis used footwork to trouble Tyson, kind of like a poor man's Ali. I also disagree Douglas was mostly on the inside, i haven't seen the fight in years. But as i remember it. Douglas was on the outside potshotting Tyson with the jab.
Could any 80s contender have been the GOAT with perfect management and drug-free dedication?
None would be GOAT. I do have to put Pinklon Thomas ahead of Page as a contender (with the aforementioned unrealistically supportive team, etc involved). Thomas had the kind of jab that could have taken even MUCH further and kept him champ much longer imo. He had a no-joke right hand coming behind it, too. Sure, he could have used more movement, but to me no other contender had as much potential, though I'll assert that for single performances, Witherspoon showed that in truckloads against Holmes.
Where do you rate Tyson if he beats Holyfield, Bowe, and Lennox?
Boxing News 24 Forum Forums > Boxing > Classic Boxing Forum > Discussion in 'Classic Boxing Forum' started by cross_trainer, Jan 3, 2022 at 9:26 AM. Assume Tyson squeezes in a fight with Holyfield before getting sent off to prison, and wins. He then returns and beats a slightly worn Bowe and a young Lennox in 1996/1997. Tyson then loses two humiliating rematches with Holyfield that go similar directions to the real ones, and his career basically pans out as it did in reality otherwise.
As long as you stand up to Mike Tyson you can beat him
I think it started because people rarely have a balanced opinion of Tyson. The critics were swinging way too far to the other extreme calling guys like Spinks and Williams bums for getting KOd in 1 round when they were good fighters on paper, it's just that Tyson was a steamroller and an excellent finisher. While it's true Tyson's early career he got matched with a lot of tomato cans that offered little resistance, his nack for scoring quick blowouts continued even after he stepped up in class.

Yep, it is time to do this. Fury has earned his spot at least in the top 10. Right now I think the fighters that I would favor to beat him is ( from best to worst) 1 Vitali K - Has the chin , the fight, the meanness, the height and the work rate. This would be a great chess match as well. Both fighters are brilliant. I just think Vitali has that little extra the take the decision. 2 - Ali - (potentially) A bigger faster Uzyk.

A real war and slugfest where Lewis took bombs from every angle from Merciless that seemed far more powerful than the blows taken against McCall and Rahman that knocked him out.

Lennox with his game face on all reign long? Wilder is a brutal victim every time he steps up. Fury gets beaten badly, humiliatingly even enough for him to retire.
