Ruling gives AI-generated child porn a constitutional loophole
NASHVILLE (BP) – A federal appeals court’s affirmation of an earlier dismissal of an AI-generated child pornography charge against a Wisconsin man came with an admission that laws are lagging for the proper monitoring of generative AI. “We now live in an age where GenAI models can render images depicting the abuse of virtual children that are virtually indistinguishable from those depicting the abuse of actual children,” wrote U.S. 7th Circuit Court of Appeals Judge John Z. Lee in his opinion.
Relief efforts continue following Nepali mudslides
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (BP) – The situation in Nepal is much more dire than news reports indicate, says the pastor of an unnamed Christian church in Kathmandu and leader of a Nepali network of more than five hundred churches across Nepal. “Eyewitnesses tell us that more than 25 to 30 thousand people died but the government has only reported 12,500,” the Nepali pastor on Sept. 5 texted Marc Maurer, pastor of Journey Church in Grand Junction, Colo. “We are not told how many people really are missing.
FIRST-PERSON: Being right doesn’t require proving the other person wrong
iStock Metadata: Series: First PersonTopic(s): DiscipleshipFormat(s): Text Articles Share this post: Editor’s note: Russell Klinne is executive director of Shocco Springs Conference Center, a Baptist facility in Alabama. Years ago, Buster Taylor — previous Shocco Springs executive director — and I were “discussing” some plans for a renovation at Shocco. First person: Couple leaves fingerprints all across Shocco Springs
I was reminded recently, at Kathy Whigham’s funeral, of something her husband, Wilton, told me many years ago. For a lot of people at Shocco Springs Conference Center, Kathy and Wilton Whigham were much more than volunteers; they were part of the Shocco family. The Whighams were longtime members of Alabama Campers on Mission, a group of people who have quietly invested thousands upon thousands of hours helping churches, camps and ministries across Alabama and beyond.
Shocco says thanks, looks forward to biggest, best summer
By Russell Klinner Executive director, Shocco Springs Summer of 2020 was definitely not “business as usual” for Shocco Springs. Campus was beautiful as always, but it was quiet. We missed the usual sounds of constant multitudes of kids splashing in the Aqua Park on the lake and the cheers of students as they prepped for team activities.
Walking faithfully without seeing the bigger picture
Walking faithfully without seeing the bigger picture April 25, 2021 By Russell Klinner Executive director, Shocco Springs Psalm 84:10–12: “For a day in Your courts is better than a thousand elsewhere. I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of wickedness. For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favor and honor. No good thing does He withhold from those who walk uprightly.
Looking back at 2020 with optimism, hope
Looking back at 2020 with optimism, hope February 5, 2021 By Russell Klinner Executive director, Shocco Springs As I sit here reflecting on the year, to say 2020 was challenging would be a grievous understatement on my part. Our organization and society as a whole have faced a global pandemic, societal unrest, political division, economic uncertainty, reduced in-person gatherings, school closings and a shortage of toilet paper to name a few.
Focus remains on the eternal
Focus remains on the eternal December 21, 2020 By Russell Klinner Executive director, Shocco Springs As 2020 nears its end, I look back at the unprecedented obstacles we faced at Shocco Springs, and I am reminded of God’s goodness and His faithful love and care for His people. How has Shocco Springs fared during this remarkably different year? Due to the global pandemic, our campus was completely shut down in March.

‘We miss you’: An update from Shocco Springs’ director Russell Klinner May 5, 2020 By Russell Klinner Executive director, Shocco Springs I have had many in our Baptist family ask me questions directly in the past few days, and I want to take a minute and provide you an update on Shocco Springs. As you can imagine, we have been hugely impacted by the recent pandemic in our nation. Life here on campus has been quite different. To put it bluntly, we miss you! We miss the ministry.
