The Dark Side of Sleeping Pills
By Ruth Hill R.N. Recent studies indicate that hypnotics (a sleep-inducing drug) might reduce as much as five years from the life span of the average hypnotic drug taker. Daniel F. Kripke, M.D., a Senate Emeritus in Psychiatry at UCSD, “maintains by endorsing addicting hypnotics, the FDA bumps off old folks and reduces the population.
Cannabis Reform on a Snail’s Pace Through Congress
By Ruth Hill R.N. Marijuana rescheduling opponents requested to reopen an ongoing hearing on the Trump administration’s proposed reform of the HEMP Law. The rescheduling opponents sought new testimony and discovery. DEA Chief Administrative Law Judge Derek Julius said that some of the information that cannabis opponents want is “immaterial for the narrow purpose of this hearing. Other information will be explored” by participant’s questioning of witnesses during the hearing.
Cannabis Tolerance – Understanding the Phenomenon to Better Manage Your Use
By Ruth Hill R.N. Many cannabis users, whether occasional or regular, eventually notice the same phenomenon: the effects they were initially seeking seem to fade over time, forcing them to use more to feel the same sensations. This phenomenon is called tolerance, and it is central to any discussion of responsible use. This article demonstrates the importance of understanding how tolerance develops, what its signs are, and—most importantly—how to manage it wisely.
Breast Cancer and Cannabis Harmful or Beneficial
By Ruth Hill R.N. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. According to the American Cancer Society, when breast cancer (BC) is detected early and is in the localized stage, the 5-year relative survival rate is 99%. Early detection includes doing monthly breast self-exams and scheduling regular clinical breast exams and mammograms. Only five to ten percent of BC cases in the US are linked to an inherited gene mutation; most cases are linked to other factors, including lifestyle.
Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over
By Ruth Hill R.N. August, September, and October consistently log the highest totals for fatal motor vehicle crashes. Over 54% of seriously or fatally injured drivers tested positive for alcohol or drugs in major NHTSA studies. Over one-third (34%) of all traffic fatalities involved a drunk driver, with 77% of those impaired drivers having a high blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of .15 or higher.
Do We Have a Pandora’s Box of Unregulated Cannabinoids
By Ruth Hill R.N. A white paper report recently issued by the California Cannabis Industry Association (CCIA) declares that the nationwide sale of hemp-derived intoxicants is a “public health disaster.” Delta-8, Delta-10, HHC, and THCO are synthetic cannabinoids developed with hemp products. The 2018 Farm Bill created a loophole in regulated hemp vape products and high-potency edibles readily available on the Internet. Synthetic cannabinoids do not occur in nature like Delta-9 THC.
September is National Suicide Prevention Month
By Ruth Hill R.N. Every September, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) and other organizations observe Suicide Prevention Awareness Month in September. In recent years, SAMHSA has produced a widely used toolkit shared by state behavioral health authorities and others looking to promote this observance.
Illegal Marijuana Grows Across the US
By Ruth Hill R.N. From California to Maine, Chinese organized crime has come to dominate much of the nation’s illicit marijuana trade, an investigation by ProPublica and The Frontier has found. Along with the explosive growth of this criminal industry, the gangsters have unleashed lawlessness: violence, drug trafficking, money laundering, gambling, bribery, document fraud, bank fraud, environmental damage, and theft of water and electricity.
Inside the World’s Largest Hemp Processing Line
By Ruth Hill R.N. The Department of Agriculture, Weights & Measures (AWM) regulates the cultivation of industrial hemp – just like other crops – to ensure proper registration, planting, harvest, destruction, and sampling/testing for tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). AWM also inspects nurseries that grow industrial hemp for proper licensing, pesticide use, and packaging, as well as invasive pests, hemp seed cleanliness, and stormwater compliance.
Cannabinol the Darling of the Phytocannabinoids
By Ruth Hill R.N. Dementia is defined as a group of progressive disorders that prevent individuals from independently brushing their teeth, taking a shower, or remembering their spouse’s name. Alzheimer’s (AD) is the most prevalent form of dementia. An estimated 7.2 million Americans aged 65 and older are living with Alzheimer’s in 2025. Seventy-three percent are age 75 or older. About 1 in 9 aged 65 and older (10.7%) has Alzheimer’s.
Cannabis industries are cozying up to the GOP
By Ruth Hill R.N. Trump’s cannabis rescheduling order has just gone up in smoke. Even with an order to expedite the process, federal cannabis reform faces long delays and legal hurdles. Over the past couple of months, four major marijuana companies each gave $2.5 million to America First Agriculture Action Inc., a Trump-friendly super PAC. Ascend Wellness, Arboretum Bidco, and Trulieve gave $250,000 to the Republican Jewish Coalition Victory Fund, a pro-Israel super PAC.
Will Repurposed Over-the-Counter Cancer Drugs Replace Cannabis
By Ruth Hill R.N. The ability of plant-derived and synthetic cannabinoids to control cancer cell growth, invasion, and death has been demonstrated in numerous experimental studies using cancer cell lines and genetically engineered mouse models. THC (Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol) promotes death in a CB-receptor-dependent manner, while Cannabidiol (CBD) exerts this effect independently. High-dose CBD rather than high-dose THC induces Breast Cancer (BC) cell death.
Endometriosis, Dysmenorrhea, and the Endocannabinoid System
By Ruth Hill R.N. Endometriosis is a condition in which tissue similar to the lining inside the uterus (called “the endometrium”) is found outside the uterus. Left untreated, endometriosis induces a chronic inflammatory reaction that may result in scar tissue. It afflicts 11% of women worldwide during their reproductive years, from 15 to 49. Previous studies have indicated that the endocannabinoid system may participate in the progress of endometriosis.
Cannabis and Immune Checkpoint Inhibitors
By Ruth Hill R.N. Many cancer patients are using cannabis to help manage pain, fatigue, nausea, and other side effects of chemotherapy. If you are in the cannabis industry or just around users of cannabis, you most likely came across someone who told you they cured their pancreatic, breast, or prostate cancer using high-dose tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and/or cannabidiol (CBD).
July 4th Mockarita with Cannabis
By Ruth Hill R.N. How shall we spend the 4th of July? A beach picnic, a campsite in the woods surrounded by trees? At a National Park with hideaway creek beds, or fishing lakes? Or your own backyard surrounded by the noise of kids playing games and barking dogs. Wherever you’re going be sure to put on your shopping list mangos. Mangos are in peak season right now.
The Current Federal Landscape Medical vs. Recreational
By Ruth Hill R.N. Following President Trump’s Executive Order (EO) directing the Office of the Attorney General to expedite the process of rescheduling medical marijuana to Schedule III of the Controlled Substance Act, the cannabis industry were flying in the clouds. Finally, something is getting done. But our jaundice eyes realized our federal government agencies must get lined up with the same precision on the same page like solar planets creating a Moon Eclipse.
Will Cannabis end Your June Wedding
By Ruth Hill R.N. Do you discuss cannabis use when you start a relationship? It’s difficult for couples to avoid black-and-white answers when considering cannabis use—pro or con. Putting this discussion off until you’re ready to tie the knot can end a relationship in a heartbeat, especially if there is a family history or relationship history related to substance use. If you are opposed to cannabis outright, then you must also talk about the effects of alcohol on your relationship.
Before Plastics, Before Synthetic fibers, Before Propaganda
By Ruth Hill R.N. “You cannot understand cannabis prohibition until you understand how useful this plant really was.” Jack Herer, known as the Emperor of Hemp or the Hemperor, was a legendary American Cannabis rights activist and the author of the 1985 book, The Emperor Wears No Clothes. He founded the organization HEMP and spent his life advocating for industrial hemp and cannabis legalization.

The website https://phil420.com/ will take you to a “German Patient Roundtable” that quotes worldwide studies supporting cannabis use. Philip J. Cenedella IV, an international cannabis consultant, manages the website.
