Ruth Michaelson

Ruth Michaelson is an investigative journalist and conflict reporter. Her work is primarily concerned with the movements of people, money and weapons throughout the Middle East, in particular looking at the after-effects of the Arab Uprisings of 2011 and the changing role of women.

Ruth reported from Berlin for two years, writing on green energy and European censorship issues.

After moving to Ramallah in early 2012, she has worked as a correspondent for Radio France International ever since. She has covered the West Bank, the 2012 war on Gaza, elections in Israel, refugee issues in Jordan and Turkey, starvation and combat in Syria, the passage to Egyptian democracy and a hostage crisis in Lebanon.

She currently lives between Beirut and Cairo.

Her freelance work is normally print features, photography and radio, although she's constantly on the hunt for more opportunities to use her investigative skills. She is a graduate of the Stabile Centre for Investigative Journalism, part of the Columbia School of Journalism, Class of 2014.

She is passionate about protecting free speech and press freedom, as well safety for journalists covering conflict. She has been a member of the Frontline Freelance Register since its early inception, and spends a lot of time thinking about how to get journalists more engaged with digital security.
