Nonlinear optical binding
We present a theory for optical binding that incorporates second- and third-order nonlinear optical interactions, extending beyond the linear optical binding models typically considered in previous work. By introducing nonlinear optical interactions, we reveal previously unseen stable equilibrium configurations that fundamentally reshape the spatial organization of bound particle arrays.
Deep learning-enhanced, open-source eigenmode expansion
Abstract We present an open-source eigenmode expansion (EME) software package entirely implemented in the Python programming language. Eigenmode expansion Python (EMEPy) utilizes artificial neural networks to reproduce electromagnetic eigenmode field profiles to accelerate the EME process by a factor of 3. EMEPy provides an intuitive scripting interface, is easily compatible with a number of other Python packages, and is useful for educators and new designers.
Top 10 Tips for Streamlining Retail Logistics
One of the biggest challenges in retail is having the right amount of stock at the right location at the right time. No one wants stock-outs. The truck driver shortage for the over-the-road or long-haul truckload segment is nothing new. It continues to worsen, reaching a record high of 60,800 by the first of 2019, according to the American Trucking Association (ATA). The association mentions many barriers to entry for new drivers, including age requirements, CDL testing standards, strict drug and alcohol testing regimes, and most importantly, safe and clean driving records.
Transportation Management in the Age of COVID-19
The United States continues to hit records for daily deaths related to the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19). Over 4,300 people have died due to the virus in just 24 hours. And, according to the New York Times, "it took more than nine months for the world to pass 1 million deaths in late September.
Connected TMS Technology Is Reaching Mom-and-Pop Carriers
Many small- to mid-sized U.S. carriers struggle to source loads, streamline business processes and capitalize on new business opportunities — despite an ever-growing demand for truckload capacity. Without direct access to shippers, small carriers often rely on freight brokers or serve under larger carrier networks, resulting in a 15-25% loss of potential revenue.
