Best Forward Available
The Winnipeg Jets struggled with their defence a lot this past season, but I am here to tell you it will get better without them taking a defenceman in the first round of the 2020 NHL Entry Draft. Related: 3 Jets’ Free Agent Centre Targets The Jets have a solid group of young, talented defencemen coming up the ranks and should focus their draft around taking the best forward available, at least for the first two rounds.
3 Winnipeg Jets' Free Agent Centre Targets
The Winnipeg Jets found themselves scrambling for a second-line centre once again in 2019-20. Blake Wheeler made a quick flip from wing to centre after Bryan Little went down with a serious head injury. But that was clearly not meant to be a full-time change for head coach Paul Maurice. Related: Jets’ Free Agents: Who Stays & Who Goes The Jets acquired centre Cody Eakin in February and were quick to move him to second-line centre seeing Wheeler shift back to right-wing on the top line.
Jets Will Face Tough Decisions in Seattle Expansion Draft
General manager Kevin Cheveldayoff and the Winnipeg Jets are going to face some difficult decisions when the time comes to submit their protection list for the 2021 Seattle Expansion Draft. Related: Jets’ Free Agents: Who Stays & Who Goes The Jets have more talent and depth in their group of forwards that will need protecting this time around, compared to the 2017 Vegas Expansion Draft, and it could prove costly come June 2021.
3 Winnipeg Jets Prospects Not Likely NHLers in 2020-21
The Winnipeg Jets will surely have some open lineup spots when they start their 2020-21 training camp. I am going to take a look at three prospects who are unlikely to lock down any of those spots.
Who Stays & Who Goes
It should not be nearly as stressful a summer for Winnipeg Jets’ general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff this time around. But that does not mean he won’t have his fair share of work to do. Related: Jets’ Future Should Include Appleton & Harkins The Jets have seven upcoming restricted free agents (RFA) and 15 unrestricted free agents (UFA) within their organization (this includes players currently on the Manitoba Moose).
Winnipeg Jets' Top 5 Late-Round Draft Picks
The 2.0 Winnipeg Jets have been solid at finding talent in the first round of the NHL Entry Draft since their relocation to Winnipeg and, it’s fair to say, that success has carried into their selections beyond the first round as you will see highlighted in this article. Related: Jets 2.0 First-Round Draft Picks – Ranked The Jets have found impact players from rounds one to seven since their first draft in 2011. Here are my picks for the Jets’ five best draft selections beyond the first round.
Winnipeg Jets' Connor Hellebuyck Deserves Vezina & Hart Consideration
Here we are entering the second week of March and the Winnipeg Jets are in the fight of their life trying to earn a playoff spot. The fact we are still able to say those words is largely due to one man – goaltender Connor Hellebuyck. Related: Jets’ Connor Hellebuyck: From Fifth-Rounder to Shutout Leader Hellebuyck has been exactly what the Jets have needed this season with their large turnaround on the back end and their constant rash of injuries they have suffered throughout the year.
Jets’ Playoff Hopes Dwindling
The Winnipeg Jets are running out of games and lifelines as their playoff hopes are slowly fading away. They blew a huge opportunity in Saturday’s 3-2 loss to the Edmonton Oilers with the Nashville Predators and Calgary Flames both losing earlier in the night.
Best Goalies: Winnipeg Jets
The Atlanta Thrashers/Winnipeg Jets franchise is a fairly young organization, having been in existence since just the 1999-00 season when the team underwent its inception into the NHL. As a result, you can probably guess that not many goaltenders have found their way passing through Atlanta or Winnipeg during those years and that their all-time goalies list is a little depleted – well, you’d be guessing right.
Winnipeg Jets Making Kevin Cheveldayoff’s Decisions Difficult
The Winnipeg Jets are in a wild card spot once again after reeling off three-straight wins along with the Arizona Coyotes losing on back-to-back days against the Dallas Stars and St. Louis Blues. The Jets are giving themselves a fighting chance to make it with their recent play and they could be getting some more reinforcements over the next week. The Winnipeg Jets are 7-2-1 in their last 10 games.
Jets Need New Blood Behind the Bench
The Winnipeg Jets and head coach Paul Maurice have agreed on a multi-year contract extension the club announced yesterday. Related: Jets’ Struggles Will Continue Maurice was believed to be in the final year of his current contract that was set to expire at the end of the 2019-20 campaign and his future with the organization has been in question for a large part of the season – but you can question it no more.
Winnipeg Jets’ Future Should Include Mason Appleton & Jansen Harkins
When it comes to the Winnipeg Jets, there has not been a lot to get excited about over the past month. The team is struggling to pick up wins and is now on the outside of the playoff picture looking in. The Dustin Byfuglien saga seems to finally be coming to an end but, unfortunately, not in a good way for the Jets and their fans, and on top of it all, the team continues to deal with constant injury woes as forward Mathieu Perreault is out again with an upper-body injury.
Jets’ 3 Best Performers in 2019-20
As a follow up to my previous article “Jets’ 3 Biggest Underachievers”, I will now look at the Winnipeg Jets’ three best performers of the 2019-20 season thus far. I feel the top two names on this list are locks and deserve to be there with the third player being more debatable. These three players have been nothing short of excellent the entire season and have shown great consistency in their games.
Winnipeg Jets' 3 Biggest Underachievers in 2019-20
The Winnipeg Jets are now losers of four straight games and are an abysmal 3-7-1 in the month of January. This is a team that was once top-three in the Central Division, but are now out of a playoff position and fighting just to stay in the race. Related: Jets’ Struggles Will Continue While the following players are not the sole reason for the team’s recent slumps, they also are not helping a lot either.
Winnipeg Jets' Playoff Hopes Won't be Buoyed by Little & Byfuglien
The Winnipeg Jets could potentially be getting two big pieces back within the next month or two, and they need them, badly. Defenceman Dustin Byfuglien was recently reported to have been making progress with his ankle to the point where he needs to test it out on the ice. Related: Jets & Byfuglien Situation Gets Weirder While there is still no imminent sign of his return, if there is any at all, this is positive news that should hopefully lead to some resolution one way or the other sometime soon.
Jets Need 1st Round Draft Pick More Than They Need a Rental
The Winnipeg Jets are barely a playoff team at the moment and will not be a threat to win the Stanley Cup this spring. Trading away their first-round draft pick for a rental player would be the worst thing they could do this season. The 2020 National Hockey League Entry Draft is expected to be deep with talent and the Jets would be guaranteed to get a solid top-end prospect with their first-round draft pick.
Winnipeg Jets’ Scheifele & Hellebuyck Earn 2020 All-Star Spots
The 2020 NHL All-Star rosters have been announced and Winnipeg Jets’ forward Mark Scheifele and goaltender Connor Hellebuyck have made the Central Division team. Joining them will be Patrik Kane, Nathan MacKinnon, Tyler Seguin, Eric Staal, Roman Josi, Ryan O’Reilly, Alex Pietrangelo, and Jordan Binnington.
Winnipeg Jets' Struggles Will Continue
The Winnipeg Jets’ performance over their last five games has been alarming and things could start to get ugly real quick. Sporting a 1-3-1 record over their last five games, the Jets have been anything but impressive over the last two weeks. Their home record over that stretch (0-3-1) has seen them produce just 10 goals for while allowing a whopping 21 goals against. The Winnipeg Jets have given up more high-danger chances in 31 of their 38 games thus far. (AP Photo/Gene J.

Welcome to Winnipeg Jets Weekly, where you can catch up on the past week of Jets hockey. From hot topics to news and notes, this is where you can find all things Jets related throughout the 2019-20 season. For the first time in seven weeks, the Jets did not finish their three-game week with a 2-1 record. Things got off to a rocky start this time around but the team managed to salvage the week with a big win on Saturday.
Jets’ 3 Stars of the Week: Dec. 12-18
It was one of the worst weeks the Winnipeg Jets have had in quite some time, going 1-2 and getting absolutely dominated in their most recent game against the Carolina Hurricanes. The defensive zone breakdowns the team has been having problems with are starting to rear their heads a lot more as of late. The Jets have given up 14 goals in their last three games and goaltender Connor Hellebuyck is seeing his numbers slowly dip.
Jets Weekly: Scheifele, Hellebuyck, Perreault & More
Welcome to Jets Weekly, where you can catch up on the past week of Winnipeg Jets hockey. From hot topics to news and notes, this is where you can find all things Jets related throughout the 2019-20 season. It’s seven weeks in a row now that the Jets have gone 2-1 in their three games. They were able to split the home and home series against the Detroit Red Wings and they finished the week off with a bang by defeating the Philadelphia Flyers 7-3 on Sunday afternoon.
Jets’ 3 Stars of the Week: Dec. 5-11
The Winnipeg Jets are currently Canada’s best hockey team sitting with a 19-10-2 record. They are sitting third place in the tough Central Division behind the St. Louis Blues and the Colorado Avalanche. They are 13-3-2 since Nov. 1 and have not looked back since their poor month of October. The Jets went 2-1 between Dec. 5-11 and they finished the week off with a 5-1 win over the Detroit Red Wings.
Jets Weekly: Waiver Claims, Reinforcements, & More
Welcome to Winnipeg Jets Weekly, where you can catch up on the past week of Jets hockey. From hot topics to news and notes, this is where you can find all things Jets related throughout the 2019-20 season. For the sixth week in a row, the Jets will finish with a 2-1 record. That is a good recipe to have over these weeks with three games and the Jets have started to build that consistency they were lacking in October.
Jets’ 3 Stars of the Week: Nov. 28- Dec. 4
The Winnipeg Jets are keeping things rolling through another week of National Hockey League action. With two big wins against the Anaheim Ducks and Dallas Stars, the team currently sees their record sit at an impressive 17-10-1 mark to this point of the season. The Jets have finally got their goals-for on the year above their goals-against for the first time in a while – currently sitting with 82 for and 77 against.
Winnipeg Jets’ Top 10 Prospects – November Update
As we enter the third month of the National Hockey League season, I figured now would be as good of a time as ever to follow-up on my Winnipeg Jets’ Top 10 Prospects piece I wrote back in August and see where the 10 players are at with their respected clubs. It is interesting to see some of the players on this list become disappointments to start the 2019-20 season and others surprisingly exceed expectations, making their argument to get moved up the list for next summer’s edition.
Jets Weekly: Hellebuyck, Kulikov, November Recap & More
Welcome to Winnipeg Jets Weekly, where you can catch up on the past week of Jets hockey. From hot topics to news and notes, this is where you can find all things Jets related throughout the 2019-20 season. The Jets kept their hot month of November going this past week, winning two out of three games on their California road trip. The team has travelled all over the map this past month playing nine of their 14 games away from Bell MTS Place, including two separate trips to the west coast.
Jets’ 3 Stars of the Week: Nov. 21-27
The Winnipeg Jets kept things rolling this week with wins against the Columbus Blue Jackets and San Jose Sharks. They now sit with a 15-9-1 record – good for 31 points. Their away record improves to 9-4 and they are 6-1 on the road in the month of November thus far. Things are looking a lot better for the Jets this month than the previous month and head coach Paul Maurice has the team playing some really solid hockey.
Jets Weekly: Injuries, Staying in the Fight & More
Welcome to Jets Weekly, where you can catch up on the past week of Winnipeg Jets hockey. From hot topics to news and notes, this is where you can find all things Jets related throughout the 2019-20 season. The Jets started the week off by renewing their rivalry with the Nashville Predators in a key Central Division matchup. Goaltender Connor Hellebuyck came up huge again, stopping 38 of 39 shots in the win.
Jets’ 3 Stars of the Week: Nov. 14-20
The Winnipeg Jets had a strong week going 3-0 on the road and they are finally starting to string together consecutive wins. There have been a lot of stellar individual performances over the last three games and many players are deserving of a three-star award. The Jets got their road trip started with a pair of wins in the state of Florida.
Patrik Laine, Sami Niku, Road Trip & More
Welcome to Winnipeg Jets Weekly, where you can catch up on the past week of Jets’ hockey. From hot topics to news and notes, this is where you can find all things Jets related throughout the 2019-20 season. The Jets are starting to play with some consistency and the results are showing. They are 7-2-1 in their last 10 games and they are playing some solid hockey away from Bell MTS Place this season with a 7-3 road record.
Jets’ 3 Stars of the Week: Nov. 7-13
The Winnipeg Jets have been playing some of their best hockey as of late and have had some key performances to help earn those victories. They went 2-1 in this week’s stretch of games and played arguably their best game of the season against the Vancouver Canucks on Nov. 8 in a 4-1 win. Things took a bit of a downward turn in their last game against the Colorado Avalanche on Nov. 12 which saw them lose a 4-0 decision.
Jets Should Target Travis Hamonic
Calgary Flames defenseman Travis Hamonic is high on TSN’s trade board after refusing any contract talks throughout the 2019-20 season, and the Winnipeg Jets should be trying their best to get him. The 29-year-old St. Malo, Manitoba product is in the final year of his contract that carries an average annual value (AAV) of $3.86 million – if he remains unsigned, Hamonic will be an unrestricted free agent (UFA) on July 1, 2020.
Jets Weekly: Little, Heinola, Line Shuffling & More
Welcome to Winnipeg Jets Weekly, where you can catch up on the past week of Jets hockey. From hot topics to news and notes, this is where you can find all things Jets related throughout the 2019-20 season. It was another interesting week in Jets land. This season has had no shortage of storylines, some good, some bad, some downright weird. The bright side of it all is the team has been playing some of their best hockey of the season as of late.
Winnipeg Jets' Blake Wheeler Passes First Test as Second-Line Center
The Blake Wheeler shuffle is off to a strong start for the Winnipeg Jets. The 33-year-old has moved to second-line center for the time being with forward Bryan Little out of the lineup for the foreseeable future. Lots of people have been calling for this move as far back as last season when the Jets started to sputter in the back half of the season.
Jets’ 3 Stars of the Week: Oct. 31- Nov. 6
The Winnipeg Jets had three games during this span and surprised a lot of people by going 2-0-1. They did not play their best hockey in the two wins but thanks to some very strong individual performances they managed to squeak a couple out. These three players were the most obvious for me this week. They all had strong performances in more than just one game and the first star is the reason they got five of their six points. Let’s get started with the latest edition of “Jets’ 3 Stars of the Week”.
Adam Lowry, Connor Hellebuyck, Paul Maurice
Welcome to Jets Weekly, where you can catch up on the past week of Winnipeg Jets hockey. From hot topics to news and notes, this is where you can find all things Jets related throughout the 2019-20 season. The past week saw the Jets go 2-1 on their three-game road trip in California and Nevada. The Jets started off with a poor performance in Anaheim against the Ducks, losing 7-4 with Connor Hellebuyck having one of his worst games since the beginning of the season.
Winnipeg Jets' Lines Need Serious Shakeup in 2019-20
The Jets’ woes continue as we enter November of the 2019-20 season and a shakeup is needed. The team barely escaped their 3-2 win against the San Jose Sharks on Nov. 1 thanks to Connor Hellebuyck’s 51-save performance. You will not win a lot of games playing like that, so regardless of the outcome, we can chalk it up as another poor performance. The Jets have averaged 32 shots on goal over their past eight games but have scored just 16 times – an average of just two goals per game.
Winnipeg Jets & Dustin Byfuglien Situation Gets Weirder
The Dustin Byfuglien situation is getting weirder. The most recent news is out – The 34-year-old recently underwent ankle surgery in Minnesota to repair unresolved issues from his injury last season. Related: Jets Weekly: Byfuglien, Little, Heritage Classic & More What Does This Mean Going Forward? The expected recovery time for Byfuglien is not until the New Year at the earliest and that’s probably a stretch for a 250-plus pound man. There are so many questions with this recent news.
Jets’ 3 Stars of the Week: Oct. 24-30
The Winnipeg Jets had two games this week. Things got started on Saturday, Oct. 26 when they took on the Calgary Flames in the 2019 Heritage Classic. Bryan Little and Connor Hellebuyck had very strong performances in that game to help secure the 2-1 overtime win. The Jets – once again – followed that one up with another lackluster performance against the Anaheim Ducks on Tuesday, Oct. 29.
Jets’ 3 Stars of the Week: Oct. 17-23
It has been another up and down week – I think that has been said before a time or two? With the exception of the game against the Edmonton Oilers on Sunday, Oct. 20, the Winnipeg Jets had a rough week – finishing 1-2. Just when you think they might turn things around and go on a hot streak after taking down the red-hot Oilers, they finish the week off with a porous loss to the now 4-5 Los Angeles Kings.
Jets Weekly: Power Play, Penalty Kill & More
Welcome to Jets Weekly, where you can catch up on the past week of Winnipeg Jets hockey. From hot topics to news and notes, this is where you can find all things Jets related throughout the 2019-20 season. The Jets have struggled at home, for the most part, this season. Their homestand is not going as expected; they’ve failed to generate consistent offense and are constantly having defensive breakdowns.
Neal Pionk Exceeding Winnipeg Jets' Expectations in 2019-20
Neal Pionk has been a solid addition to the Winnipeg Jets’ lineup since he was acquired via trade in the deal that sent Jacob Trouba to the New York Rangers. For a player who was being written off before he stepped foot on the ice, he has done well for himself so far. Former New York Ranger Neal Pionk has been a pleasant surprise for the Jets. (Amy Irvin / The Hockey Writers) Yes, it is still early, but this is a classic example of past seasons and analytics that don’t mean all that much.
Jets’ 3 Stars of the Week: Oct. 10-16
It was another up and down week for the Winnipeg Jets. They played four games between Oct. 10-16 and finished with a 2-2 record (4-4 on the season). There weren’t many stars to choose from in the last two games – both ugly losses in which the Jets were outscored 11-4. With that said, there are always a few players still on their game even in losses like that.
Patrik Laine, Ville Heinola, Blake Wheeler & More
Welcome to Jets Weekly, where you can catch up on the past week of Winnipeg Jets hockey. From hot topics to news and notes, this is where you can find all things Jets related throughout the 2019-20 season. The regular season is in full swing and the Jets have had their fair share of ups and downs already. If one thing is for certain, this team will keep us all well entertained throughout the winter months – prepare for a rollercoaster of emotions.
Winnipeg Jets' 3 Stars of the Week: Oct. 2-9
The Winnipeg Jets played four games in the first week of the NHL regular season, all of which were on the road against Eastern Division opponents. For them to come out of the week with a 2-2 record is really good and a result few were expecting. The Jets came out hot, scoring 11 goals in the first two games, but unfortunately – as many predicted – they allowed 10 goals and played fairly poor defensively. The 6-4 loss to the New York Rangers was an intense and entertaining game.
Making Sense of the Winnipeg Jets’ 23-Man 2019-20 Roster
The Winnipeg Jets finalized their 23-man roster on Tuesday, and, while there were not a lot of surprises, there were still some. The news of Sami Niku getting sent down to the Manitoba Moose shocked a lot of people and the team also broke the news on Tuesday about Nathan Beaulieu and Bryan Little. Related: Winnipeg Jets 2019-20 Season Preview & Predictions Beaulieu is expected to miss up to four weeks, while Little has been diagnosed with a concussion and currently has no timetable for a return.

Winnipeg Jets 2019-20 Season Preview & Predictions
With training camp in full swing and the regular season just around the corner, here’s a look at what to expect from the Jets in the 2019-20 season as well as some predictions for the players and the team. Things are not as peachy as they were at the beginning of last season, when many thought the Jets were legit Stanley Cup contenders after their long 2018 Playoff run.
Jets Report Cards 2018-19: Bryan Little
The 2018-19 season was not a great one for the Winnipeg Jets. Sure, they finished second in the Central Division with 99 points, but after what they accomplished in 2017-18, something just did not seem right this time around. In this series, we will take a look at some key Jets’ players who may or may not have been part of the problem in their up and down 2018-19 campaign. Related: Jets Report Cards 2018-19: Patrik Laine Bryan Little played his second straight 82 game season last year.
