What was your first job as a journalist?
I was asked to cover a group of volunteers who had set up a free food delivery service for the elderly during the Covid-19 Pandemic
Have you ever used a typewriter?
Yes, I used to work at an old 150 year old department store that had many old relics from the past. It was incredibly satisfying.
What does it mean to be a journalist?
Journalism is a service, it is getting to the bottom of what is actually happening around us. Good journalism can change the world.
How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?
I prefer to have a very loose framework. So I can spend time researching and putting together the story from scratch.
What tools and software do you use to do your job?
PC, Laptop and Tablet as well as a notepad and pen to scribble down ideas. I also like to use Grammarly to point out any issues.
What's your favorite social network?
Twitter (X) - Although it is often frustrating I find it the easiest way to connect with fans in real time.
Who do you wish followed you?
Fabrizio Romano, the current king of football transfer news.
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
The Swindon Town wages and sale exclusive, it took weeks of hard work to verify the information. The owner even responded in Forbes.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Just start writing, there are so many ways to get your voice out there. Even if it is read by 3 people to begin with, you will learn and grow
When's the best time to pitch you?
Any, I'm open to chatting whenever you need me.
What's the best pitch you ever got?
"Write about what makes you happy" - A publication was doing a happiness week where everyone had to write an article about their interests.
What's the worst pitch you ever got?
It was two-three paragraphs that set out the entire, almost line for line article they wanted from me. They'd practically already written it
What's your favorite drink?
I'm unfortunately an energy drink connoisseur, they help me through the day especially, working late into the night after the kids bedtime
When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?
With my two children Jacob and Charlie, probably at the park or the beach looking for fun things to do.
Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?
I spend a lot of time reading The Stacey West, Lincoln City fan blog.
What's the most common misperception about your beat?
Two for the price of one. 1. That journalists make up the information and 2. That journalists have sources at every club. Both false.
