City of Complexes
Listen to this article A few days back, I was stuck in traffic near Rawalpora and asked my son to do a small exercise. “Count the complexes and malls - both operating and under construction.” We started the count from Sanatnagar Bypass till Rajbagh - a straight distance of barely 6 kilometers. We had to stop not because we finished counting, but because the brakes had to be applied frequently. The count was 30. Thirty commercial complexes in 6 km on a single arterial road.
An inescapable imperative
Listen to this article In business, the common question asked is: “How can I do what my competitors are doing, but a little better?” A much more powerful question is: “Can I do something different enough that customers begin to see my business in a completely new way?” This captures the central spirit of Blue Ocean Strategy. The term Blue Ocean Strategy was developed by professors W. Chan Kim and Renée Mauborgne.

Technology: From Gen X to Gen Z
Listen to this article I became conscious of my surroundings in the early 1970s and was fortunate to witness the gradual technological transformation of Kashmir. Looking back today, it is astonishing to see how rapidly life has evolved—from an era of horse-drawn transport, and kerosene lamps to one dominated by smartphones, artificial intelligence and instant global connectivity.
From Classrooms to Careers
Listen to this article In an era defined by rapid technological advancement, global competition, and constant change, education systems worldwide are being compelled to rethink their priorities. While academic excellence and examination results continue to dominate educational discourse, a crucial question remains: Are our schools, colleges, and universities equipping students with the skills needed to thrive in the real world? The answer, unfortunately, appears to be no.
From Stethoscopes to Algorithms
Listen to this article What if your next doctor’s appointment took place not in a crowded clinic, but through a conversation with your smartphone? Imagine describing your symptoms to an AI-powered medical assistant that responds instantly with a probable diagnosis, treatment suggestions, and personalised advice — all from the comfort and privacy of your home. What once sounded like science fiction is steadily becoming a reality.
When medical care feels mechanical
Listen to this article In our society, doctors are often regarded as saviours. For a person battling illness, even a reassuring smile or a few kind words from a doctor can ease anxiety and restore hope. While ultimate healing may lie in the hands of the Almighty, the pathway to recovery is largely shaped by the medical professional. Patients approach doctors with trust, expectation, often, desperation.
Before It’s Too Late
Listen to this article Jammu & Kashmir has long been renowned for its breathtaking landscapes and exquisite craftsmanship. Yet behind this beauty lies an industrial sector struggling to keep pace with a rapidly evolving world. Across the globe, manufacturing is being reshaped by Industry 4.0—an era defined by automation, artificial intelligence, and data-driven production. Yet, most small-scale industries in Jammu & Kashmir remain rooted in outdated systems of mechanisation.
Breaking the traffic gridlock
Roads, roads everywhere, but not a single inch to move. At peak traffic hours, gridlocks and logjams are becoming a routine scenes. It often raises the commuters’ blood pressure and induces stress. We feel helpless and hamstrung. Missed flights, delay in timely meeting the medical emergencies, late for client meetings and other scheduled appointments, late arrivals to offices, schools, and universities, and much more. That is the grim reality of today’s urban commuting.
Can Smart Mobility Fix Kashmir's Daily Gridlock?
Can Smart Mobility Fix Kashmir's Daily Gridlock? 2025-11-22 08:06:13 (MENAFN- Kashmir Observer) Representational Photo I often leave home early, hoping traffic will be kind. It rarely is. The roads feel like an endless test of patience. Vehicles crawl, horns rise, and tempers flare. ADVERTISEMENT I look around and see the same frustration on every face. A 10-minute trip becomes a half-hour. Students reach school late. Professionals miss meetings.
When words become weapons
Once I asked a question to a few school children, “Which is the most dangerous weapon on earth that science has given humankind? Different students answered differently. Atom bomb, nuclear bomb, B-22 aircraft, missiles, submarines, tanks, mines, AI-powered drones, etc.,were a few answers received. There was one student sitting in the corner of the classroom who surprised everyone with his answer. “The most dangerous weapon is the human tongue and the speech it makes.”Yes,that is true.
Ailing in the Queue
In the hospitals and clinics, one thing remains constant: patients waiting. They wait in long, unregulated queues, even some in the scorching heat of summers or the bone-chilling winds of winters. And far too often, they wait in pain, without information, shelter, or hope. Across the length and breadth of the region, patients suffer long before they even reach doctor’s consultation room.
Putting SMC’s ground staff to serious health risks
In a disturbing scene witnessed by me early morning across several parts of Srinagar, municipal sweepers under the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) were seen cleaning streets without wearing any proper personal protective equipment (PPE), masks, or appropriate uniforms — a glaring violation of safety protocols and Smart City guidelines. Clouds of dust rose into the air as these sanitation workers cleaned the roads with bare hands using traditional brooms, putting their health at serious risk.
As Global Hotspots Struggle, Kashmir Can Still Chart A Smarter Path
(MENAFN- Kashmir Observer) KO File Photo By Abid Bhat Some places are not meant to hold masses, but meaning. Kashmir is one of them. The question is no longer how to bring crowds, but how to welcome the right ones, in the right way. Not long ago, you could still hear your thoughts in a Shikara. Now, the lake moves differently – restless, hurried – as if trying to keep up with the way we travel. The solution doesn't lie in shutting doors. It lies in opening new ones, smartly.

Adapting to the changing technologies, innovations and the future of jobs Post by SAAD PARVEZ on Thursday, February 2, 2023 The Journey of Innovation and entrepreneurship embarks on with some abstraction. Saving Water | NIT student innovates ‘Food Grain Washer and Water Purifier’ | Greater Kashmir
Water is a vital resource, a precious commodity and its saving is essential. While the concept of water stress is relatively new, it is the difficulty of obtaining sources of fresh water for use during a period of time and may result in further depletion and deterioration of available water resources. Its management is imperative and if water harnessing and saving is not considered as an element of innovations, the future survival would be difficult for nations.
