Sun Damage | Bookreporter.com
While I very much enjoyed SUN DAMAGE, the title doesn't provide even a hint as to what is really going on in Sabine Durrant’s exciting, tension-filled novel. I think a better title would be a phrase used in the book: "Risky Games." Those, after all, are exactly what Ali is engaged in for much of the story. We meet Ali in the south of France as she and her partner, Sean, decide to con a tourist on the beach. Lulu appears to be ripe for the picking, and the scam seems to be going well.
The Grifter in Popular Culture
In TV, film, and books, both on our screens and on our bedside tables, con artists are rife. This year alone, four novels (“The Guest,” “Counterfeit,” “Scammer,” and my own “Sun Damage”) feature grifters as central characters. A slew of new TV shows, such as “The Dropout,” “Fyre,” “Inventing Anna,” and “The Tindler Swindler,” have emerged. Even the second season of “White Lotus” centres around a scammer. What is it about con artists that consistently captivates us?
Win A Copy Of The Book 'Sun Damage: A Novel' By Sabine Durrant
The heat is intense. The secrets are stifling. And there is no escape. In a tiny village in Provence, nine guests arrive at a luxury holiday home. The visitors know each other well, or at least they think they do. The only stranger among them is Lulu, the young woman catering their stay. But Lulu is not exactly the woman on the video the guests thought they’d hired. Turns out Lulu has plenty to hide—and nowhere to run as the heat rises.
Perspective Recommends
Harry Sidebottom once told me the reason he set his bestselling Roman Empire novels (thirteen, and counting) in the third century AD was because its history was so full of holes he could drive a chariot and horses through it.
Well that was July!
It has been an odd month this one! I have now started to feel so drained with working from home and trying to find the motivation for it. When you read this I will have started my 3-week break from work. I would say holiday but our first family holiday abroad has been cancelled.
Finders, Keepers
is a stay-at-home mum, originally from Hungary, but now living in Hertfordshire. Reading has always been a passion. She has an interest in all works of fiction but has a soft spot for thrillers and crime novels. Love thy neighbour. It is after all the golden rule of treating people the way you want to be treated and no one is keener to start living by this principle than Verity Ann Baxter. Verity’s life takes an exciting turn when her long-awaited new neighbours finally move in.

The Best Psychological Thrillers
What is a psychological thriller, and what are its origins as a genre? There have always been psychological thrillers, although obviously they weren’t always called that. Medea is a psychological thriller: it’s about a wife getting her revenge on her husband; a dysfunctional family. Similarly, Othello is a psychological thriller about whether you can trust your husband. Rebecca has a similar theme.
Skłam ze mną
Zawrotne tempo. Klaustrofobiczny klimat. Niepokojące wydarzenia. Książka, od której nie można się oderwać. Parę drobnych kłamstewek jeszcze nikomu nie zaszkodziło. Prawda?
O knize Lži se mnou Všechno to začne malým zalháním. Takovým, jakého jste se už někdy dopustili všichni – třeba když potkáte dávného známého, na kterého chcete z nějakého důvodu udělat dojem. A tak příběh svého života trochu přikrášlíte, aby na tohohle šťastně ženatého právníka se dvěma dětmi a nádherným domem patřičně zapůsobil.
