What was your first job as a journalist?
My first full-time role was at Idaho Education News. Previously, I was an intern at the Idaho Press and editor of my college newspaper.
Have you ever used a typewriter?
Yes.
How is social media changing news?
Social media has allowed for a broader spread of misinformation as well as news.
Why did you become a journalist?
I became a journalist because I believe that informed communities are empowered communities.
Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?
EdSource. EdSource is such an important resource for education news in California. Their podcast, Education Beat, has inspired my own work.
What's the most common misperception about your beat?
Education news goes beyond test scores.
