Investigating the Effects of Copper Impurity Deposition on the Structure and Electrochemical Behavior of Hydrogen Evolution Electrocatalyst Materials
Introduction Click to copy section linkSection link copied! Hydrogen is a sustainable alternative to fossil fuels due to its versatility as an energy carrier for transportation and grid storage. (1−6) Electrolysis of water to form hydrogen and oxygen can be used to produce hydrogen with renewable electricity. (7−10) While electrolysis is a well-known process, there are several limitations hindering efficient and cost-effective hydrogen production.
Effect of Microstructure on Chemo-Mechanical Damage Evolution in Aluminum Foil Anodes for Lithium-Ion Batteries
Popular Summary Aluminum-based anodes for lithium-ion batteries are attractive due to aluminum's high lithium storage capacity that would enable high energy density. Despite decades of work, however, aluminum-based anodes often show rapid capacity decay with cycling. Here, the authors investigate how different aluminum microstructures and defect density influence chemo-mechanical damage evolution.
Experimental measurements of the granular density of modes via impact
The jamming transition is an important feature of granular materials, with prior work showing an excess of low-frequency modes in the granular analog to the density of states, the granular density of modes. In this work, we present an experimental method for acoustically measuring the granular density of modes using a single impact event to excite vibrational modes in an experimental, three-dimensional, granular material.
Epitaxial Metal Electrodeposition Controlled by Graphene Layer Thickness
Control over the morphology and structure of metals during electrodeposition is necessary for a variety of applications. For instance, to deposit copper with low sheet resistance for integrated circuits, careful consideration is given to the orientation and microstructure of electroplated copper. (1) Coatings for corrosion protection also heavily rely on the morphology and structure of the electrodeposited films to achieve desired traits like hydrophobicity and resilience.
In Situ Characterization of Transformations in Nanoscale Layered Metal Chalcogenide Materials: A Review
Minireview PDF ShareShare Abstract Layered metal chalcogenide materials, such as MoS2 and Bi2Te3, have found important applications as 2D materials in emerging electronic devices. To create nanoscale layered chalcogenide materials with precisely controlled structures and properties, it is critical to understand and control how they evolve and transform under various conditions.
