Conducting The Music Of Your Family's Life — SallyClarkson.com
There are so many laws, rules, and formulas out there that can pile up burdens of guilt on any mom. There were always rules to make me question myself: “The best time to meet with God is in the early hours of the morning—if you don’t study the Bible then, you will miss out on His voice of greeting.” “A real mom keeps all of the insides of her drawers organized.” “A real mom sews; after all, the Proverbs 31 woman did.” “A real mom corrects every single disobedient action of her...
Uniquely You: Exploring Your Child’s Extraordinarily Distinctive Design
In this new book, author, parenting advocate, and professional mom Sally Clarkson teams with her son Nathan to discuss God’s divine design in creating each person with his or her own DNA and characteristics. Their premise is that each person within the traditional family structure deserves to be accepted, affirmed, and loved regardless of his or her particularities.
God Made Us Curious
I can still feel the excitement that bubbled up inside me as I took my assigned chair in the colorfully decorated classroom. I was seven years old and had recently entered the second-grade advanced readers class. As I sat down, I glanced around the room. Photographs of farm animals covered one wall, as we would be learning about the farms that produced the food we ate. Large formal letters covered another wall, an exciting new way of writing with lovely curls of cursive.

Giving Your Children Your Words
Why do we celebrate a child’s first word? Why play the name game, or continuously offer words to an infant or toddler that are met with a blank stare, bemused smile, or even total disregard? We quietly chuckle at our child in the developmental phase recognized onomatopoetically as babbling, knowing that it represents the first attempts of our little one to mimic the talking they have seen and heard in others, especially in us as parents.
A Question of Excellence
By Clay and Sally Clarkson Printed in Practical Homeschooling #37, 2000. How do you define "excellence?" Well, why are you really homeschooling? Tweet It's all a bad dream. I'm surrounded by a mob of skeptics. The future of homeschooling hangs in the balance. "Why are you doing this irrational thing to your children?" they demand. (Remember, it's a dream.) A sneering questioner calls out, "Can you really pursue excellence as a homeschool teacher?" I breathe a sigh of relief. This is an easy one.

RAR #57: How Stories Shaped an Out-of-the-Box Kid, Sally & Nathan Clarkson
Nathan Clarkson grew up as an out-of-the-box kid living with ADHD, mental illness, and (thankfully) a very loving mother, Sally. The two have recently published their story in the book Different, which details how stories helped to shape Nathan, and how his mom came to decide that what other people thought about their parenting and educational approach was irrelevant.

Hooked On Books: The Greatest Of These Is Love
Roses, chocolates and a romantic dinner are some of the things we associate with Valentine’s Day. But showing love for our spouse, children, neighbors and friends should be demonstrated and celebrated year-round, not just on February 14. In the New International Version of the Bible, the word ‘love’ is mentioned 551 times. As Christians, we know that there are different types of love, but the most important is agape love—the unconditional love of God for us.
I Just Love a Great Story! Perhaps Ours Will Someday Be Told — SallyClarkson.com
Click here to play today’s new podcast episode. St. Andrews is one of my favorite places in the world. Surrounded by ruins of ancient buildings, located on the wild sea of Scotland, it is bubbling over with stories of courage, faith, heroism and it is wild and glorious to hear these tales.
Sally Clarkson: Has COVID made you an 'accidental homeschooler'? - I've been one. And my kids are thriving
I never dreamed I would homeschool my kids. I did long for my children to enjoy learning and view the world with wonder. And my husband Clay and I wanted our children to join our travels for work and ministry. For those reasons, almost four decades ago, we launched our family’s homeschool experiment. Today our four grown children are thriving in their adult lives, and I believe that educating, inspiring, and mentoring them was some of the best work I have ever done.
Treasures of Knowledge
You may have tangible wealth untold; Caskets of jewels and coffers of gold. Richer than I you can never be. I had a mother who read to me. —Strickland Gillian, “The Reading Mother” (one of my mother’s favorite quotes) He who walks with wise men will be wise. —Proverbs 13:20 Large, feathery snowflakes spun round and round, waltzing through the pine forest outside our living-room window. Six inches were expected by nightfall.

Hooked On Books: The Magic Of Motherhood
Mother’s Day is celebrated on Sunday, May 12, and millions of mothers will receive flowers, chocolates, beautiful finger-painted pictures and maybe even a day of rest. For 21 years, I’ve had the privilege to celebrate Mother’s Day, but I learned the hard way that motherhood isn’t always joyful. As I’ve walked through my motherhood journey, I have realized that we all have different experiences as mothers. Dear new mothers or struggling mothers—don’t let comparisons steal your joy of motherhood.
How to Get Our Girls Into Scripture
Quarantined during a 72-hour radioactive iodine treatment, Erin Weidemann had what she calls “a dark moment of the soul.” Hours before, she had swallowed a pill that doctors hoped would kill the aggressive cancer metastasizing in her chest and head. At 26, she faced the reality of her own mortality. “My battle with cancer was a five-year period where I was discovering a closeness with the Lord,” says Weidemann.

Just Keep Laughing and don't let life get you down — SallyClarkson.com
They caught me giggling..... What a great week I have had. Joy has been home for one week from school and so I decided it was to be our week of celebrating life together. Putting aside the duties of details of life, I worked on the eternally valuable work of being best friends. What a great decision this was.
Gentleness, the Surprise Peacemaker — SallyClarkson.com
Hugh Cameron, Scottish Painter “A gentle answer turns away wrath. But harsh words make tempers flare.” Proverbs 15:1 Standing in the hallway of the hotel where we were hosting our mom’s conference, I noticed a sweet mama who looked as though she was at the end of her rope. Holding a several months old baby, who was arching his little back and crying as though his heart would break, she looked beside herself. Offering to hold her little one so she could get some rest.

Having a Mindset that says, "I will redeem this moment!" — SallyClarkson.com
At least 5 times in the past two weeks, we have had to cancel plans for gathering with friends, or celebrating a tradition or going on an adventure due to lots of snow, or to illness. As a mama, I often want to please everyone, but disappointments are a way of life during some seasons. Joy is only home for a short while and she will be leaving in a couple of days. All of us were looking forward to a really fun planned family time tonight.
