What was your first job as a journalist?

I wrote for a publication on Chicago school reform as a graduate student at Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism

Have you ever used a typewriter?

yes, in high school.

Who's your favorite fictional journalist?

Jake Barnes in Ernest Hemingway's The Sun Also Rises.

What does it mean to be a journalist?

Journalists write the first draft of history. We exist to inform the public using facts and by featuring well-informed sources.

What's the funniest news-related #hashtag you've seen?

I just saw #JoAnnFabricForever in the New Yorker's satirical piece about Mike Bloomberg

Why did you become a journalist?

I believe that fact-based writers make the world better.

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?

I am proud of my two-part series about the 25th anniversary of the first digital ad and where storytelling is going.

What's the best pitch you ever got?

I tend to spot the trends myself; that's why I am hoping to connect with publicists who will proactively pitch me.

What's your favorite drink?

I gave up coffee for 12 years; I like making cappuccinos at home now.

What's the most common misperception about your beat?

hmmm, perhaps that digital advertising and social media are always on the moral side of things. I take a holistic view when assessing trends
