Interview
What was your first job as a journalist?
Writing for my blog. I had too much to say to keep my mouth shut anymore!
Have you ever used a typewriter?
When I was very young, even still, it was one of those 80's models with a tiny screen.
How is social media changing news?
The major media has less total control, now people can choose to read what matters most to them, and we can contribute more as well.
Who's your favorite fictional journalist?
Lois Lane? Lol! :)
What does it mean to be a journalist?
Writing about things that matter, in an attempt to make a difference.
What's the funniest news-related #hashtag you've seen?
Couldn't even tell you...
How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?
Probably DM me on twitter. Ill see it there first. :)
What tools and software do you use to do your job?
I keep it simple, I use Wordpress for my site and Word to edit. I use PicMonkey for my graphics, but I'm always looking for new fun tools!
What's your favorite social network?
I have fallen in love with twitter, its so real and interactive. It feels more like a conversation and less like passing notes in class
Who do you wish followed you?
Everyone in a relationship. If more people understood and knew about narcissism, people would be safer.
Why did you become a journalist?
It wasn't my intention, but there was too much I had to share. I started writing and it has taken on a life of its own.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
I was actually home-schooled, but my mother is a writer, so I wrote stories every day. Thanks Mom!
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
19 Signs You're Married to a Narcissist. Emotionally, it was the hardest story I have written, but its touched so many people.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Choose to write about something your passionate about. You will be writing a lot, and learning a lot about it.
When's the best time to pitch you?
Anytime
